Had a surge of excitement just now after confirming my Exam date for April 19 and felt like posting. This has been the toughest one for me to study for so far but I still feel good about it. Just started rewriting the NINJA Notes and it' such a lovely feeling when the “aw, it's finally clicking” hits ya.

    Time to get ‘er done.

FAR - 85 (CPAExcel with Ninja Notes), 71 (CPAExcel)
    AUD - 79 (CPAExcel w/Ninja Notes)
    BEC - 77 (CPAExcel w/Ninja Notes)
REG - July/August 2013, 74 (CPAExcel w/Ninja Notes & NO COFFEE during the AM test!)

Just got back from the testing center:

1st testlet: pretty easy, I think I flagged three

    2nd testlet: slightly harder

3rd testlet: hardest of the three, but not too crazy

I absolutely flew through the first two testlets. 40-45 minutes total. The third testlet seemed unusual compared to the first two which caused me to spend a little more time on it, but still only 30 minutes. Overall, I think I did alright on the MCQ's.

The sims I'm a bit more iffy on. I had about an hour and forty-five minutes for it and found the research question quickly so time was not an issue. Two of them I'm pretty sure I got at least 75% and the other three I'd say at least 50%.

I felt better walking out after this one than I did FAR, but who knows if that means anything.

Good luck MCLKT, LSNYC, smp73, seattle and everyone else still studying for REG! I'm rooting for you!

    Off to AUD for me.

    F - 86
    R - 90
    A - 97
    B - 91

@gobias, good luck on your results and thanks for rooting!

Best to you on your remaining studying, looks like you will be done testing by the time I take REG, keep us posted.

    @MCLKT, absolutely no negative inner self-talk 😉

Get ready to pass on the first attempt, period. We all know that you can do it and you know it too and the otherwise saying little inner voice needs major squashing down!

@gobias: good luck on your results…we will probably get ours around the same time and good luck studying for AUD. I found AUD much easier to study for (but I am also an auditor so that might have helped). Any way study hard! You'll get it!

@MCKLT: You can do this! I agree stay positive…trust in yourself and your studying. You know more than you think! 🙂

@fading novel: Isn't the “this is clicking feeling” the greatest feeling!? I am getting that now too!

Back to my power weekend. 2.5 hours done today shooting for another 2.5 tonight and on to megga studying tomorrow and Sunday. Embracing the hermit lifestyle!

Gobia- I felt the same. My first MCQ's were pretty easy but the other two were extremely difficult. There were questions that I have literally never seen before in my life. I even searched through my study materials, etc. afterwards and couldn't find anything on them. This means two things: One, I hope it was a “pre-exam” question that doesn't count, and two I feel alright because there was nothing that could have prepared me for it.

I thought the Sims went well.

Good luck LSNYC, SMP, Seattle, MCLKT, and everyone else that is going to conquer Reg with no problems!

Only one month till scores are released 🙁

    @bcjasper09

May I ask what study material did you use?

I am using Becker, Just finished REG 8 and I didn't see anything about “Alimony recapture” that some members talked about here….

    Good luck!!

I also used Becker. I thought they prepared me well for Reg. The stuff that was on there that I didn't know I hadn't seen posted on here or mentioned. I didn't study alimony recapture in depth. I used Jeff's free ninja notes and that gave me a good understanding of it so you may want to check those out for a refresher.

Anyone that has taken FAR… Better or worse than Reg. I cannot imagine things getting much worse than studying taxation and business law.

@MCKLT – You can do this! I know you can, don't put your self down, you can do this on the first try and if you put int he effort like i know you are and will continure to do you will pass on the first try!

@gobias & @bcjasper09 – Getting harder is a good sign! But i think the fact that you thought the firts testlet was easy means you were prepared! – Good luck on Audit!!

Thank you for the well wishes to my first of 4 power weekends before my exam! 2-3 more hours tonight and then 6ish hours tomorrow is my goal!

    Happy studying all!

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

WOW!!! You all are amazing. Thank you so much for the support! I didn't think that post was too harsh on myself, but I know A71 REG fam ain't having any of it, lol.

There is something very special (as odd as it may be) about an online community. I know my friends think I'm crazy for being a part of it. But I really feel like some of you have become friends as well. I really appreciate it.

bcjasper and Gobias – congrats on getting the exam behind you. It sounds like you both were well prepared and I'm sure you will come out on the winning side.

I forget who asked, but I found studying for FAR easier than studying for REG. But FAR seemed impossible to finish, there was just soooo much info. However, just keep pushing through it, because that “it clicks” feeling comes when you go back to the beginning for a review.

I agree there is something special about A71. No one else I know is going through the CPA exam process. It is so nice to have like-minded people to “talk to”.

As I was rewriting notes this morning I got that “this is clicking feeling!” I feel like I am really starting to know this stuff!

Hey! I am really new for CPA exam. I just started to prepare for the exam. I've taken federal taxation for corporation, trust, estate…but never any individual taxation course. I am preparing to study the individual tax myself. What textbook do you think is the best for CPA preparation for individual taxation. I do not mean Wiley or Becker. Just simple textbook.

    Thanks for everyone.

I am in college right now and took individual taxation last semester and am doing corporate now. We use the McGraw Hill “Taxation of Individuals and Entities.” I have the 2013 edition and it was very beneficial in learning the material. You could probably use the 2012 edition (as its much cheaper) and supplement it with a CPA review course that offers updates on some of the phase outs and changing rules (CPA exam doesn't get to specific on amounts that are constantly changing or indexed for inflation). Hope that helps!

    Staring FAR today… Yikes.

Can anyone explain the AMT tax credit carryforward to me in plain English? I do not understand this at all.

Why do you get a credit? What is the credit? Is it the amount that you paid OVER your regular tax liability? What does it offset in the future: more AMT or your regular tax liability? Do you always get to take it? Sorry, I do not feel like my material explains this well. (Roger/ Wiley)

Roughly, I think it is like the IRS saying, “Hey, we're sorry we hit you with that extra 29,000 in tax liability on your return due to your AMT calculation, in the future we'll let you offset that amount against __________.”

I still don't know what _________ is, AMT or regular tax liability.

I also don't get why this is a credit, it's not avoiding double-taxation or creating any kind of incentive. I thought the purpose of the AMT is to make sure the soak the rich, so why give them a credit for that in the future? So baffled. Thanks to anyone who can give me some insight or a different explanation.

    BEC: 7/15/13 - Passed! 83
    AUD: 5/20/13 - Passed! 84
    REG: 2/25/13 - 68, 4/8/13- 74 - You have got to be joking. Retake: 8/31/13
    FAR: 11/29/12 - Passed! 82

Okay REG Fam…I am having a “moment” a “What if I fail REG again moment.”

I love REG, I can do this. < Keep repeating that to myself. Not helping (yet). Just feel like I'll never be “ready”. Gah. I'm going to do something to take my mind of this test…maybe I just need a break I ahve nearly 9 hours in today.
