MCLKTParticipantLSNYC – you mean tomorrow you are going to freeze at a Red Sox game 🙂
@smp73 -I am just soooo jealous of the amount of material you have covered and all of the questions you have done. I wish there was a pill I could take. But unfortunately, there is only one way through all of the material: 1 video, 1 Page, 1 MCQ at a time.

LSNYCMemberUGH I hate Corp Tax, I just do not get it, partnerships I am ok with, Individuals I can do, but Corps I just don't get! I decided to take a break from it for a few days and will re visit it on Sunday or Monday of next week.
@smp73 – I think you are in good shape, I always like to do one weak section of MCQ then one strong section of MCQ the week before my exam. It keeps strong topics fresh but gives me time to work on weak ones too.
@MCLKT – Whatever helps you sleep at night 😉 (FYI mostly for other people reading this we are joking around and not trying to start any type of sports argument)
A - 61, 91!!
B - 78!
F - 76!!!
R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!Finally done!
This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

MCLKTParticipantYes, totally kidding. I'm a Royals fan :/ Then the Cardinals (that's my dream World Series!!!) Oh to have been there in '85…
So, I don't really like the Red Sox, so to speak, but I'm a fan of Buchholz, who you get to see start!!!!

LSNYCMemberMCKLT – Did I dream a post about your profile picture? I don't think so…. So if not I get that and think thats pretty cool but I still can't root for him… Till he goes and plays for one of the 28 other teams (not the Meta either)…. But I do respect him and maybe like him a little more 😉

smp73MemberMCLKT it helps that it is just me and my dogs at my house and I have essentially cut off all communication with the outside world…oh and coffee and redbull! 🙂
I am going to try and keep writing everything out like my life depends on it and hopefully redo all the MC questions.
Go time. I really just want to be done!
Oh…and if there has been something I do not know really really well I have been writing it down and then rewriting it a few days later to help make it stick. I think I have killed a tree and a few pens haha.

MCLKTParticipantI am green with envy smp73! I admire your dedication to the hermit lifestyle 🙂 Red Bull, coffee, just you, your dogs, and review materials… lucky (to be said like Napoleon Dynamite) 🙂
LSNYC, lol, it was not a dream. There were 2 and I kept deleting them… I just don't know a way to say it that doesn't sound like a little douche'esque. But I still think it's cool and have to cheer him along. Yeah, the profile pic is from one of my happiest times. I can't wait until I'm done with this exam and can spend more time with them (getting our girls together).

smp73MemberMCLKT – I can not wait until the hermit lifestyle is a thing of the past. My main excitement now is going to the gym (but of course I like to go when it is empty!) or taking the dogs for a walk. I am hoping beyond hope that I will be done with this process soon so I can “re-enter” the civilized world!
Although I will be doing the CIA exam this fall – at least I will have the summer to not study (hopefully!)

LSNYCMemberSmp73 – I agree tons of credit I wish I had that dedication!
MCKLT – I don't think it sounds douche'esque, but then again I live in NYC and its a who knows who and who can get what kinda world. I'm used to it and can usually tell people are being douche, I don't think you were at all.
I think it's cool and frankly they seem to be your real friends so who cares what they do for a living 🙂
Off day for me today tomorrow back to studying thinking contracts are on my plate!

smp73MemberThanks guys! I really really really just want to be done with this beast. I failed REG in July and up until that point in my life I had never failed anything, ever. Seriously ever. It was so tough to process. I did well on the next two exams (AUD and BEC) and then failed REG again with a 74. (up from a 63). Now I am fed up with failing and just need to be done! I also started formal education when I was 2 (I am now 25) and have never not been studying or in school…that is some motivation to finally have some time where school/studying doesn't get in the way!
Back to the land of color coded notes and post it notes and MC questions!

MCLKTParticipantRecapture for alimony is when the payor (who previously deducted alimony expenses from income) must go back to the previous 2 years and claim a portion of the previously deducted amount as taxable income in the third year. And the receiver gets to deduct the same portion of previously taxed income.
This takes place when there is a sharp decline in alimony payments over a 3 year period.
It's a complex calculation, so it may not be easily translated via forum.
To claim a recapture in the third year, look at the previous 2 years as well.
step 1. Take year 2 payment, subtract 15k = year 2 recapture
step 2. calculate the average of the year 2 and year 3 payments ((year 2 – 15k + year 3)/2)
step 3. take year 1 payment, subtract 15k,
then also and subtract year2/3 average = year 1 recapture
year 2 recapture + year 1 recapture are both claimed in Year 3 🙂

*NINJA 10 Pt. COMBO & Yaeger*April 4, 2013 at 12:14 am #415162
MCLKTParticipantExample: A pays B alimony.
Year1 = $60 Year2 = $35 Year3 = $5
Alimony recapture:
1. $35 – 15 = Year2 Recapture $20
2. ($35 – 15 + 5)/2 = $25/2 = $12.5 Year2/3 AVERAGE
3. ($60 – 15) – 12.5 = $32.5 Year1 Recapture
$20 + 32.5 = 52.5 alimony recapture to claim in Year 3 return

How far you reached with taxation?

AnonymousInactiveI am kind of nervous that Becker didn't mention anything about Alimony Recapture. I hope that is because it is not a heavily tested subject.
Test is tomorrow… I can do this!

jeffKeymasterI believe I cover the nuts and bolts of alimony recapture in my free chapter of ninja notes…
