smp73MemberWhy is it so much easier to give advice than take your own!? I seriously need to take my own advice here…I have two weeks until the test, I can do this! An intense fear of failure set in today now that it is April. Lets hope 3rd times the charm. I have studied a total of 5 hours today, listened to notes etc. I can do this! (Somehow I just have to actually convince myself of that)

wendywhiteMembersmp73 – seems to me the intense fear of failure is what truly starts making things click, not to mention drives you to practically triple your studying time… 🙂 you can!

AnonymousInactiveHi question about 179.
Becker said ” For 2012, the maximum amount that can be expensed under Section 179 is $125,000, but that amount is reduced, dollar for dollar, for the amount the total related property placed into service in the year exceeds $500,000. ”
Ninja Notes say $139,000 reduced dollar for dollar after 560,000.
Who is right?

gobiasMember@amaramin19 you can find the answer to that on the IRS website. If I had to guess, the ninja notes numbers are probably for 2013.

ZaqParticipant@amaramin19: It's funny that you mention that. Section 179 for Becker does indeed say $125,000; $250,00 for like post 2012, but I ran into a WIley Question that said Section 179 expense is $300,000!
I don't what to believe!

AUD: 65, 91!?

Nevergiveup2012MemberI am doing a review session right now and have a simple question that I am not sure if Becker's answer is correct.
It's in R1 simulation #1 tab 3:
Determine the amount of gross income to be reported on the individual income tax return and included the amount excluded (if any).
Interest of $650 from US EE Savings Bond
Is Interest from US Educational Savings bond taxable? Becker's answer: Yes,
I think the interest should be tax free , as stated in the textbook unless I misunderstood it. What do you guys think?

gobiasMember@Nevergiveup2012 I agree with you. The only rationalization I can think of is that we are supposed to assume the interest has not been used to pay qualified education expenses unless explicitly told so. If that's the case, it is awfully petty of the examiners.

gobiasMember@smp73 something I'd like to do (but unfortunately don't have time for) is write out all the mnemonics and formulas (AMT, basis, PHC tax, exemptions, etc.) over and over until I have them all memorized. I think it would be the most efficient way to commit it all to memory and then when you see a question on the exam, you can write out the formula/mnemonic on your scratch paper to help you.
Just a suggestion.
