AnonymousInactiveI have a question for some of the veterans that have taken Reg. I have heard that the simulations are terrible, and I've also read that Becker doesn't provide the greatest practice. I know your not able to disclose what exactly the simulations are but do you have any advice on better preparation for them? I saw on cpareviewforfree.com a simulation package for 10.00, is it worth the investment?

smp73Member@bcjasper. I have the sims from cpareviewforfree.com.They are not formatted the best but do provide extra practice and have good explinations for the answers. There are a lot more sims included than I actually thought. For ten bucks its worth it if you want a little extra practice.
I have taken REG twice (MC are my downfall). For the second time (failed by one point) I did not do a single practice sim I just drilled concepts and my score report said I was stronger on the sims (mine does the stronger weaker comparable). Since youll never know what you will get material wise for the sims I have focused more on knowing concepts and being able to apply concepts. I apparently need to work on reading MC questions (seriously hate the word “not” in a question) in order to do well.
Hope that helps and give the practice sims a try…it is only $10!

AnonymousInactiveKnocking out R4 this weekend. Then it's on to BLaw! I still think doing corporate tax in R3 was the most time consuming section I've dealt with so far.

SeattleAccountantMember@ChefBlake, you are right about R-3, it is a drag. After spending 5 hours on R-3 lecture + partial notes, i'm now going to re-read it and attempt MCQ. This puts me behind the schedule, but better be safe than sorry.
Good luck on your progress!

smp73MemberChecking in. I have studied on and off through out the day. Taking small breaks to break up the studying. I think I am up to something like 4-5 hours of studying. Going to try and get in a few more hours today. Tomorrow's my birthday so I will probably only get in a few hours of studying.

smp73Member@SeattleAccountant. – The price is so great on them and any extra practice is good practice! Like I said it came with more actual problems than I was anticipating so I felt that it was well worth the money. Hope they help! Good Luck studying. 🙂

AnonymousInactive@smp73 I appreciate your input. I just reread R1-R4 today and am going to tackle R5-R8 tomorrow than grab those sims. I have done the MCQ twice averaging between 90-100% but I just feel like I am not prepared enough with only using Becker. I've heard some people say Becker prepares you well but others say the opposite. Overall, I'm nervous as I am sitting for Reg on April 5th.

smp73Member@bcjasper: I think being nervous about it is normal. I have been nervous going into each exam I took. Just study hard, take some study breaks to refresh and do your best. Good Luck!

LSNYCMemberMorning all! Later start for me today then i had originally wanted. My goal today is finish up all my tax MCQ and review. Then on to business law, but after each business law section i am going to do a 20 MCQ practice on tax to keep is fresh! I can not believe i am in quarter end again and my exam is just about 5 weeks away! Planning some MAJOR power nights in the next few weeks! Here is to a power day!
@bcjasper Do you have the Wiley Test bank? The extra MCQ are great plus they have SIMs.
However i have found i do a few SIMs for each exam but i don't go crazy i find really understanding the topics is more important then working SIMs.
Happy Studying!

AnonymousInactiveHello REG fam!
I'm still reviewing REG. Moving slooooow because I found out that I failed AUD with 74 and have to re-take it in early April, but over 70% of REG done. Also was thinking of getting cpareviewforfree SIMs. I was wondering if anybody has a good strategy to remember all taxation of retirements plans details? For some reason I have a hard time remembering everything.
@ Lisa
thank you so much for your input as well I found it very helpful !

LisaMember@CPA_NY:
Thanks. I want to help if I can, as this site helped me alot, when I was sitting for the exam. As you can see from my posts, I often made up a memory aid or nmemonic to remember how information goes together (so the examiners can not confuse you on those questions). In terms of your question on retirement plans and their taxation, are you talking about the EE, ER, deposits or EE withdrawals? I might be able to offer some suggestions if you clarify….
Also, I saw someone talk about re-reading the chapers after listening to the videos, working the MC, and SIMS. I believe this is a very important element to help a candidate on exam day and get several more questions correct. And for me, reading the text, my notes, the providers notes helped me to better control my nerves as I approached the exam date.
