So. Many.MC. I have never done so many MC questions in my life….but as I keep doing them I find myself telling myself why the other 3 answers are wrong and why the right one is right with out hesitation! <That is a good feeling! Corporate tax MC are going slow but I am really getting the what makes this right and what makes those wrong so I am happy with the progress. I will probably have more time to study now, oh joy. Did something to my leg so running is out for a bit.

    How's REG fam doing?

I ventured out today and got bunch of gel pens over $10. Can't believe of how fast i'm going thru them and how much my hand hurts 🙁

Who knew that CPA exam prep involves some physical activity!

On a serious note, progress towards success: devoted 2+ hours going over like-kind exchanges, hopefully mastered them.

@Lisa you're awesome, I love seeing people who have already passed still helping out and contributing.

I didn't do ANY studying yesterday. I had a really bad day at work, I cried TWICE, this is going to be a shitty quarter end! Hoping for a better day today. Also if anyone has any advice on how not to cry in front of your boss and coworkers I think that would be helpful for me. I also majorly snapped at a girl…. Ugh I'm a mess is it Friday yet?

Hoping to get some studying in today even if it's just reading NINJA, Happy studying and happy Wednesday.

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

@ Lisa- yes thank you for still helping! I made a pdf of your like kind examples!

@LSNYC – Hope you have a better day! If it makes you feel better I threw my phone after a cranky phone call from a co-worker yesterday. Hope you get in some studying today. 🙂

LSNYC – My tears are a running joke at my office. The stress and frustration with my responsibilities each quarter-end, would ALWAYS bring me to tears. It got to the point where colleagues would know I was almost done with our client fee billing because I had worked until midnight and was crying in my office with the door shut the next day. I laugh about it now, but at the time I was angry, stressed, overworked, and just wanted to do a good job. I haven't cried at work in over a year now. But, not because I learned how to hide my emotions (that's not likely). Things changed because I went above my boss's head (my boss would never take action or deal with it). I talked to her boss, and his boss, and explained what the issues were, why the expectations are unreasonable, and had a list of suggestions that could help solve the issue.

I couldn't believe it, but it worked. I think they talked to my boss to implement change, without outing me, and before the next quarter-end rolled around, we were on the right path.

For how not to cry at work, I think we have to find out what is causing the tears and fix the underlying issue.

But, the quick fix is to excuse yourself when you feel your face heating up and the tears starting to well. That's what I would do, then hide in the bathroom or go out to your car for a moment, lol.

I can't fight tears, ever. For any emotion, I'm like Kristen Bell, on the emotional scale between a 3-7, I'm good. But too high or too low, and I'm crying. Happy = tears, sad = tears, anger = tears, any emotion outside of 3-7 on the scale = tears.

ETA: I didn't mean to HiYa this, lol, I meant to edit it and add, I hope you have a much better day today.

Now, I need to go get my first cup-a-joe.

    @LSNYC:

Your dog picture is cute. What is the breed? In terms of studying, when I felt like I could not work MC's, or study very well, I would at least spend time reading notes or memorizing a formula or two. This helped me to better understand concepts…

In terms of your work situation, sorry things are rough right now, but you can learn to hold back enough emotion, so as not to cry. If you practice thinking about the ‘facts' of the situation and not allow yourself to ‘feel' the situation this will help you. As an example, (that I am making up to show how the ‘facts vs feelings' works) say your boss is blaming you for a project result that was unexpected and unwelcomed from the bosses' point of view. The facts approach would have you thinking and/or speaking about the facts of the situation only, and any alternative way to discuss the matter, that establishes why you did what you did and why that makes sense. While discussing the matter it's important to keep the emotions of the situation, like your boss looking to transfer blame to you or to ‘rewrite' parameters of the project to assign blame to you that was in reality a restriction inherent in the project itself. I do not know if this is what you're looking for, but this method helped me.

Remember, you are so-o-o-o-o close to getting though to the other side of a CPA, and that is a huge accomplishment, that you will have achieved on your own! Your boss, co-workers, whoever, cannot in any way diminish that or take that away from you. Don't give them the power to distract you from studying and achieving your goal.

And hug your dog, they are great therapy!

Thanks for telling me about your making a pdf of the examples. Since I want to ‘give back' and help others whereever I can, its helpful to know that the information is useful to others. Now, if you work through several problems, you should be good to go on this topic, which probably means you will not get any of these questions on your exam! But at least you can check like kind exchanges off the list of to-do's and have confidence in this area.

Good luck, you are almost there too! By the way, when I did not pass BEC the 1st time I took the exam, I was careful to write down the focus of the exam, areas I felt weak on and frankly highly tested areas that I DID NOT see on the 1st exam. I really studied these and at least for me, the generally highly tested areas that I did not see on my first exam were on my second exam….Just a thought and I hope its helpful to you.

    Lisa:

One of the reasons I did a pdf of your examples is because I have NOT seen a lot of like kind questions I REG, yet. I generally get them but I figure extra practice will be idea because with my luck I will see a lot of them April 17. I am taking that general approach as I prepare for the exam.

    LYSNC:

Agree with Lisa, very cute dog. I have two dogs and they are the best when I get stressed from work or cpa studying. Sometimes just taking a break and taking them for a walk or playing with them will help me get back on track!

Mine always seem to know when I have studied too much or need a break and do something ridiculous to get my attention!

Thanks guys and girls! You made me feel way better, luckily my boss is amazing I spoke to him and I feel way better now. I usually cry from frustration which is what happened yesterday. So far today is off to a great start!

My dog is a long-haired chihuahua, he is an old man now he turned 10 in January! Love the little guy so much. He does make everything better.

Having such a hard time getting motivated to study tonight!

Took the dogs for a longer walk just to avoid studying. Going to rewrite some ninja notes and have an “easy” study night. I listened to the audio for nearly 7 hours today. I hear Jeff's voice more in a day than anyone elses voice because of those notes!

Question: How many times have you/did you rewrite ninja notes? Is once enough or should I do it more than once?

I clipped a concrete pillar leaving work today and seriously messed up the side of my car. I love my car and I am very sad. I am much too devastated to study. That's my excuse. At least my deductible is low…

At least you are safe. Don't be too sad about the car for long though. Or else you risk being really sad at playing catch up with your studies 🙂

Alright REG fam…. another night of studying. I will pass REG. I will pass REG. I will pass REG.

But firtst I must complete individual taxation!!! This is the longest material e-v-e-r!!!!! And that week off didn't help much at all.

@MCLKT: I like that “I will pass REG, I will pass REG” I need to start telling myself that everyday! You will pass REG! I-Tax is so much material!

I did not get a ton of studying done last night but I went to bed early and woke up feeling human. I have been extremely tired so studying was tough. I think a short night of studying and some extra sleep will give me what I need to do some serious studying tonight!

smp73, I'm with you. I have been just exhausted! I know I need to re-review Becker chapter one again, but I'm moving on to two tonight. I'm ready for some new material.

You guys are great for keeping me motivated. Thank you!

    We can pass REG!!!

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you a secret I learned…So, we're driving home from dinner with our three teenage sons in the back seat. They're fighting, smacking one another and basically causing a huge ruckus. So, I said “THAT'S IT! Now you've done it!” and I changed from the radio to the REG Ninja audio. Boy, that was all it took. Those boys quit fighting and shut right up. I don't know if they were in shock or if they really were interested in REG, but it sure did the trick. So, if you are driving along with screaming fighting kids, you might just pop in the Ninja audio. It sure did the trick for us! 🙂
