I saw a thread like this for past years, so I’m starting one for 2018.

Here’s where I’m at so far:

2/26/18 — mailed in full application, with all requirements completed

    3/19/18 — $250 application fee check cashed

Now waiting for some type of word from the CBA.

Gotta say — the CBA is SUPER frustrating to deal with.

Anyone else going through the the same waiting game??

called again today to be annoying and get an other status update, was hoping somehow they had moved on it in the week + since I last called.

Lady I spoke with (Sherry maybe?) said it was still pending initial review and had not been assigned. To call back in 2 – 4 weeks. Apologized and said they are just super backed up and are just now processing applications that were received in May. Mine was sent in June.

In case someone had a similar question regarding “Out-of-state supervisor verification” the licensing handbook mentions, here's CBA's response I rec'd today:

“Often with Public Accounting experience, the CBA does not require a hard-copy verification the supervisor's active licensure.”

Looks like I won't have to submit that! 😀 That's the only good news I rec'd since I started this process…. lol.

First time posting on this matter.

I submitted my application in May 25th, 2018. I got 0 letters or notices until August 20th, 2018 saying that I need to complete 3 units of accounting ethics. Now, I am searching through community colleges to get this thing over with and have no luck finding 3 units ethics course. Santa Monica College is already full and now I'm looking into Mission College Santa Clara, but their website is soooo bad and I can't get much info on it. =(

@seju – look at Cabrillo College. It is super easy and the professor is very chill.

@MaLoTu How many weeks for the ethics course in Cabrillo college? I'm on a waiting list for Santa Monica College which has the 8 week course.

The course I took was 8 weeks, but it looks like a regular session course starts Monday the 27th. That on is apparently 16 weeks and I took it with Mullen not the professor they have listed on the site.

My saga with the CBA feels never ending.

Here's my timeline below (btw – I think I will be lucky if I get approved in 2018):
5/08 – mailed out everything to the CBA (application, fee, livescan, Ethics score already sent by this date, etc)
5/16 – application received by CBA
6/07 – received the yellow postcard from CBA (postcard was dated 5/30)
6/07 – $250 check finally cashed by CBA (posted in my bank account)
8/07 – CBA confirms initial review of application (received letter with a bunch of outstanding items – i.e. CBA not okay with scanned signatures on my Certificate of Experience, CA Ethics Exam had a different address on my file, not enough Ethics Study credits … etc)
    * Emailed CBA and was able to get get Certificate of Experience and CA Ethics Exam address sorted out (when I emailed they said my supervisor could email in the form – isn't that a scanned signature?! SO they decided to be okay with it)
8/16 – sent in my course descriptions to CBA (they said response time 2-3 weeks)
8/24 – CBA sent another letter saying I have 4 credits of Ethics Study remaining (previously it was 7) and that I need to send a letter to Nevada State Board of Accountancy for out-of-state supervisor experience (letter dated 8/21)
8/28 – scanned + emailed form to Nevada State Board of Accountancy (called Nevada up and spoke to a wonderful, nice woman – super easy process and no fee!)
    * also when looking at the Nevada website, one can actually check their application online! What a concept …
8/29 – emailed CBA additional course descriptions for them to review (hopefully I won't need to take an additional course!) and Nevada confirmed via email that they will be mailing the form to CBA today!

@Jombe – I feel like I'm in a similar situation. For the out-of-state supervisor verification, they will send you a form. Then it's your responsibility to send this form to whatever out-of-state board of accountancy. For me, it was the Nevada State Board of Accountancy. I ended up just calling them up and they said I could email them directly, and they will fill out the form and handle the rest. It was super easy. Much easier than dealing with CBA.

Given the stories I have read on here, I took my last test on 8/21 and submitted the Fingerprints, Application, and Employer Verification on 8/22. Just have to finish Ethics. We'll see how it goes.

Just called the CBA for an update and sounds like they did initial review on 8/25 and flagged that my partner did not date the general experience form, d'oh! Scanning and emailing a new one over to them now and hoping I hit final review soon. To put my formal timeline if it helps:

6/18 – mailed application in. Had completed everything but the final units needed to hit 150.
    6/28 CBA cashed check
6/30 completed final quarter at Foothill CC online
7/11 got confirmation that transcript was sent to CBA from FH college
7/19 received CBA letter confirming receipt of application and to expect to hear back in 30 days (right)
8/20 called CBA, they said they hadnt begun my review, call back in two to 4
8/30 called again, obviously im not a patient man. Got the update above, so thats good.

I sent my application in May (middle). Was notified mid August that I was missing the criminal disclosure form. Sent that a week and a half ago. Called today, they didn’t record receipt of my doclosure form, but she was able to pull it up while on the phone and 10 minutes later I had my initial license pre approval and application form! Sending off the fee now!

whoa that seems very fast relative to the CA processing times recently. They put your application through final review while still pending the criminal disclosure form it sounds like. I was told the process is they do a review of your application to determine no forms are missing or incomplete. Then once they confirm the application itself is complete they assign it to a final review that takes 8 to 10 weeks. Doesnt sound like they followed that process on your application, lucky.

Lol yeah it was luck if that’s the case. But it definitely seems to be the case because everything else was ready to go once she got that form. Maybe it is that the criminal conviction form is super minor and they already know from your finger prints that you have no convictions?

I am just glad to be getting my number finally!
