I saw a thread like this for past years, so I’m starting one for 2018.

Here’s where I’m at so far:

2/26/18 — mailed in full application, with all requirements completed

    3/19/18 — $250 application fee check cashed

Now waiting for some type of word from the CBA.

Gotta say — the CBA is SUPER frustrating to deal with.

Anyone else going through the the same waiting game??

LOL – you nailed it turo!

It just seems over the top – now we have to deal with yet another state board to verify someone else's license? Why, how, and for what purpose?

I wish there was more transparency in this process. This CPA thing is really a pain!

    Another update:

    4/6/18 – submitted fingerprints and $250 check
4/24/18 – cashiering at CBA claims they cashed my check
5/15/18 – check actually cashed, shows a deposit date of 4/9/18 so wow – what took so long?

I haven't even received the post card yet.

So I am just about to wrap up the Accounting Ethics class the first week of June. When would you guys suggest i submit my license application?
I've done everything else that was required, just waiting on this class…any input would do, thanks!!

I'll chime in here as well. Also playing the waiting game with the CA Board.

1/17/18 – Mailed in application and check for $250 with USPS certified mail (received 1/19/18). Livescan, ethics exam, transcripts done beforehand.

    2/6/18 – Check deposited (finally!).

2/14/18 – Received postcard saying application received.

3/14/18 – Received letter saying application being reviewed (dated 3/12/18).

As of yet I have not received anything else. I called them in February and they said that they are very understaffed and backed up. I tried calling again in March but went straight to voicemail. I guess they really are understaffed? I emailed them a week ago and a few weeks before that. Just received canned responses that they are backed up and application processing is taking longer.

I don't remember them taking this long before. I remember sending in an application in 2016 to see which/how many units I am missing for licensure since they won't tell you until you apply. I remember in 2016 the application took a couple months. This is pretty ridiculous right now. I'm wondering if they laid off a bunch of people or something.

Seriously- if they are understaffed why not hire more staff? If they don't have the resources to hire more staff, why not increase the license fee (not that I want to pay more, but I would rather pay more than deal with this ridiculousness).

Other states have their sh@# together – I've read from some users on this forum that they received their license number a couple of days after they filed their applications (Virginia, for example). And don't get me started on the re-current score release day fiascos…

    Adding to update my progress:

2/5/18 – application received by CBA (sent certified mail return receipt requested)
    2/14/18 – check cashed (Happy Valentine's Day!)
3/25/18 – called CBA licensing to request a status update on my application. Woman I spoke to stated they were still processing applications from late January and to expect 8-10 week delay which now I think means 8-10 weeks on top of the 4-6 weeks expected processing time
4/23/18 – called CBA and was told my license went through the first screening and was on to the second one, should hear back by the end of June

Good luck to everyone else waiting!

I thought I would hop on the CBA timeline bandwagon.

3/08/18 – received final passing score
    3/10/18 – Livescan
3/12/18 – mail out application certified mail
3/16/18 – application received by CBA
    3/27/18 – check posted
    4/03/18 – Receive postcard
    4/21/18 – pass PETH
4/26/18 – letter saying our records show you passed all four sections
5/01/18 – letter saying we're initiating the review of your application, you'll hear the results in 4-6 weeks.

So, I still haven't heard anything back from CBA after my application getting there on 5/1/18 according to FedEx tracking.
I am going to give them a full month before I start harassing(?) them via calls & emails.

Looking at other folks' timeline, I wonder if more people apply after the busy seasons vs. during Jan~April.
It looks like people who submitted their application in Jan ~ April got their checks cashed within a month (more like in 2~3 weeks), but CBA had mine for over 4 weeks, but still hasn't even cashed my check.

Definitely a frustrating procedure. This wouldn't fly anywhere but at governmental entities.
Imagine telling your clients, “Oh, no worries. It'll just take 3~6 months to process your request…”

I sent my documents for my license first week of January. Until now, it is still under second/final review by CBA.

So, it's been a full month since my application arrived @ CBA & CBA neither cashed my check nor sent me an acknowledgement card yet.

    BUT,

I did get an email response today for the email I sent imploring if they'll at least tell me via email if they got my application.

    They said “YES.”

    BUT,

they also said wait another 8 – 10 weeks for a status letter as they haven't yet initiated the review of my application.

I already know per licensing handbook that CBA will at least send me a form to verify out-of-state CPA who attested to my experience requirement after their initial review and who knows how long that'll take.

Basically I am looking at minimum of 4 months of processing time… oh joy.

I got my letter (dated 4/17) saying they had received everything and needed about 4-6 weeks. I just called to check on the status and was told that application volume has been very high and that I should try calling back in about 4 more weeks. The explanation I got for the delay wasn't very convincing and I'd appreciate some more clarification or honesty from the CBA.

I finally got my acknowledgement card saying they rec'd my application and that they will send another status update in 30 days.

Per email response I rec'd few days ago though, they said they'll need 8 – 10 weeks before they can give me an update. LOL

Bro @hecubus330, are you serious with your post? I don’t mean to offend you. I’m just surprised with your timeline. Based on my experience, I sent my documents for my license first week of January. I got the letter dated 5/29 saying that I need to send them a check of $120 for the actual license. It seems like CBA didn’t apply the rule of “first come first serve basis” on processing license applications.
