@financeguy: See you are waiting on FAR also. This wait is driving me crazy. This is my last one! How are your studies for REG going?

    @chaFay

Yeah the wait is killing me too. It seems like a damn coin flip on whether or not I passed. Its tough to study for REG…I'm pretty burnt out. I can tell you that it is going to be very close w/ that one too.

    AUD - 81, BEC - 74, 80, FAR - 82, REG - 81

Is the 6-8 week time frame @ 20 hours per week really feasible to pass this section the first time. I have a sudden sense of urgency with all the 2011 changes happening to pass this year. Here is my test schedule:

Audit – taking it 8/31 – in review stage

    BEC – October 4

    FAR – November 30

REG – I'll take it in 2011 since the changes don't impact REG as much

How many have passed the first time taking it with this time schedule??? I was told this would not be doable to pass the first time. Should I just take FAR in November and skip BEC until next year to allow more study time to increase my chances of passing FAR in 2010 and avoid learning IFRS? Please advise. Thanks!

    Crammer,

All the tests are passable the first time. It just depends on a lot of variables from your background/work/life schedule/learning style/test questions.

I think 6-8 weeks at 20hrs a week is doable for FAR but I put in closer to more like 200hr, but maybe it was a bit overkill. Really depends on how you feel the quality of your study time is.

I would recommend scheduling FAR at the end of Oct. See how your study session goes and push it back if need be. Schedule BEC for the end of Nov. BEC is much easier to study for in 4 weeks, according to what friends have told me. This way if you feel unprepared for FAR you can push it back to the end of Nov. If you feel okay, take it with having prepared Sept./Oct. And then you will have a month to prepare for BEC.

    FAR 92 - AUD 91 - REG 94 - BEC 86

Thanks for the great advice, potatogun! That's an excellent recommendation to try and take FAR first and postpone it if necessary and take BEC in 2011. I don't like the addition of writing in BEC but I could live with that over having to learn a whole new set of standards with IFRS and having 7 simulations in FAR.

This forum is the best therapy for all of us losing our mind over this nightmare of an exam. Even though I just started studying recently, I'm already a little neurotic. Good luck everyone!

Ok folks Gov and NFP is not as bad as I thought am just about to finish chapter 9. Now my question since I have the exam on 8/31,what did you folks who have taken FAR before do for the last week. Am thinking of reviewing all MCQ's again and specifically chapters 3,4,5,6,7. Any advise for this last week will be helpful.

In my opinion, this is what you must master:

    – leases and the PV concept

    – stockholders' equity (especially the treasury stock transactions)

    – concept of fair value

    – deferred taxes

    – Govt/NFP

like potatogun said, I forgot consolidations and intercompany transactions.

Personally, the becker chapters that I found more significative (in terms of content) were F5 and F7.

    AUD - 8/10/10 - 88
    BEC - 8/31/10 - 88

whonis, in the weekends, I only study in the pm.

This morning my wife and I went hiking on the Pasadena hills. We were supposed to be there at 9:30 but we ended up being one hour late of course.

At one point, it must have been like 450 degrees, seriously. Our poor little fluffy dog iperventilated almost for 2 hours after she was done with the hike!

Financial management is not nearly as beautiful as the Pasadena hills, but it's definitely “cooler”. 🙂

    FAR - 7/26/10 - 95
    AUD - 8/10/10 - 88
    BEC - 8/31/10 - 88
    REG - 10/15/10 - 95
