Prince, I used Wiley only for all my tests, but now I'm supplementing with Roger, Roger uses the wiley book for HW anyway….

I am DONE !August 4, 2010 at 7:40 pm #242914gabe1475ParticipantJust finished FAR. Had 8 minutes left when I finished. It started out fairly intense as I did not know the first question and my heart started pounding (then I started thinking it could be a pretest question). Rest of the first testlet ended up being a breeze, second testlet was harder and no change for the third testlet. I had two topics for the communication that I was fairly familiar with, although I did not sign the first communication (not sure if we are supposed to?). I think I missed one of the research questions and one tab completely. It is going to be close, but I felt ok about the test. It is a good feeling to be done with the test either way. AUD next on 8/26, time to study.
FAR - 95
AUD - 82
REG - 94
BEC - 84August 5, 2010 at 12:16 am #242915MPoni123Participantglad to hear it went fairly well, gabe! hopefully you will be in wave 1 and will find out your results in a few weeks! ugh going over bond amortization schedules right now with cindy. she definitely makes it more fun especially when she made a comment about hating fair value reporting haha. i never noticed how long her hair was…but she wears it in a braid sometimes with her different colored scrunchies. she is so cute lol. can you tell i am going nuts?! do these topics get any better? 🙁
ok back to the lecture so i can finish up this sim and get away from bonds….for now.
AUD - 84; REG - 90; BEC - 79; FAR - 75; ALL DONE!!
August 5, 2010 at 1:49 am #242916gabe1475ParticipantThe information by the end will be a bit overwhelming, but practice makes it more managable. I was just talking to my wife and second guessing myself, what if I fell for their trick questions and end up failing? But she bought me back to reality and told me to just study for AUD and worry about that when the time comes.
FAR - 95
AUD - 82
REG - 94
BEC - 84August 5, 2010 at 2:08 am #242917potatogunParticipantBest advice there is after a test. You have a while to wait so don't let it consume you.
FAR 92 - AUD 91 - REG 94 - BEC 86
August 5, 2010 at 2:10 am #242918AnonymousInactiveIs it possible to pass without barely answering anything on the last simulation, even leaving the written response blank? I was going at a good pace through the first section then the last two sections were very difficult. This bodes well for the MC, because I know strong performance means difficult testlet. I feel very good about the MC, and I feel really good about the first simulation (except the research part I just couldn't find what I needed!). Similar situation happened to me on REG and I pulled off a 92 (although I did answer at least half of the last sim, including the written response), so I'm really hoping I did enough on the first four sections to get at least a 75! This is my last section that I need!
August 5, 2010 at 2:12 am #242919AnonymousInactiveThis is gonna be a rough few weeks waiting for this score, for sure!
August 5, 2010 at 2:12 am #242920AnonymousInactiveWell, my experience, unfortunately wasn't as good as Gabe's.
I am 90% positive that I failed.
Which is completely frustrating considering I put 2 months and around 150 hours on this one.
However, before I went in I kept scoring in the upper 60's on MCQ quizzes and practice exam and couldn't get my scores up. With AUD & BEC I was scoring in the 70-80s.
So, I actually pretty much expected it.
The test didn't get harder and I actually considered giving up….but though of this forum and trudged through.
The questions weren't hard it was they were not on what I expected and studied. I watched the Yaeger DVD's and studied what Cindy emphasized, and it didn't seem like any of it was on the test. Just random general stuff that I skipped over.
My initial plan was to try to take REG by the end of the month, so hopefully I could be finished in August, but now I guess I can slow down, because I will be re-taking FAR in October.
Sorry to rattle on….just pretty much venting.
August 5, 2010 at 2:39 am #242921AnonymousInactive@Gabe….since you also used Yaeger can you tell me what your study plan was.
I already know I will be retaking, but my process was to wait and do just the minimum MCQ at the end of watching all DVD's back to back.
This worked for me for BEC & AUD….but I don't think it is the method for getting FAR.
If you don't mind, I would like to hear what your plan of attack was since I am also using Yaeger.
PS…Sorry to keep hassling you!!
August 5, 2010 at 3:21 am #242922MPoni123ParticipantCPA – Valenz…sorry to hear 🙁 but you never know until scores come out!! I am doing the same thing as you for Yaeger (FAR)…watching all the DVDs then I am going to go back and do the minimum multiple choice questions. I didn't do that for BEC, but there is soo much material for FAR that I just want to get through the lectures so I have enough time to review and actually work through the problems. I just started studying a week ago and put in about 26 hours so far. I sit August 31. I just finished DVD 6. I think if I can finish the lectures by the end of next week, I should be in good shape because that leaves me with a little over 2 weeks for review.
I also have Becker for FAR 2010 so I will probably do some multiple choice questions and the final exams just to vary up the multiple choice.
AUD - 84; REG - 90; BEC - 79; FAR - 75; ALL DONE!!
August 5, 2010 at 1:43 pm #242923gabe1475ParticipantThere is no guarantee that I passed, when I was doing the quizzes at home I would think I answered the majority right and end up getting in the high 70's or low 80's, which was always surprising since I felt I knew most of the material, the same can happen on the exam if you miss that small piece of information on the question and you calculate one of their incorrect answers. As far as studying, I would say I put in 150-180 hours total and all in a period of 4 weeks, you could say this is my full time job for now I would watch each lecture and do the minimum required multiple choice keeping track of all answers and highlighting the answers that i got wrong so I can go back to those areas after all the lectures and get a better understanding. From there I started doing the exam's on Wiley and would review the incorrect answers after each review making notes of items that I got wrong. I only did MC at this point. Once I had a good handle on that I would tackle Simulations in every area (If I knew how to complete a simulation, I did not waste my time, just looked at the answers to make sure I was correct, this was in study mode). Right before the exam I read every communication on the CD as well as the book. At the end it does not hurt to do a couple of exams to see where you are. If there are entire sections that you are not familiar with, you have to work the MC and be able to calculate the answer. I also have Becker material from 2007 which teaches certain sections better, such as Gov't (I would frequently refer back to their charts which compare the different types of funds, accounting treatment, and type of statement to prepare for each).
For anyone trying to study after work that is not easy, I have tried that and gave up after two months into it without even taking one part.
CPA-Valez – If I pass the test you are more than welcome to the Becker book. Helps on the topics that have lots of memorization.
FAR - 95
AUD - 82
REG - 94
BEC - 84August 5, 2010 at 4:11 pm #242924AnonymousInactiveCPA- Valenz don't count yourself out yet, wait for the scores….I would had bet against myself in REG and I ended up passing with a 75…..As far as getting ready, my recipe is videos, MC's (twice at least), notes with the main topics, formulas, areas…and the last week, more MC's and test myself by reciting out loud what is on vevry chapter of the test and the main points, formulas or key factors on the chapters…..writte down the formulas or phonetics as many times as needed untill they are second nature…..I sit on 08/23 for FAR and I had been studying for over 2 months….I'm half way thru my second time….this is a lot of info… good luck to all!!!!
REG 75, BEC 77, AUD 83, FAR: 08/23, LIFE back: 08/24
