Well, I had my FAR exam yesterday. It was difficult. Finished with less than a minute to go! I answered everything in both simulations. For some of it, taking my best guess – thinking that is better than leaving it blank. LOL The testing center is about an hour and a half from home so we took the kids and stayed at a hotel Friday and Saturday. Got up early to go to testing center. Finished exam then thought what a great opportunity to sneak in an afternoon nap……….I just couldn't wind down. Ended up taking the kids to a water park in a neighboring town……..the little one said, “we're going, mommy. you have to study.” Tried to explain to her that it was over. Praying it's over for good! The test definitely lived up to its name. First testlet – not too bad. Second testlet – harder. Third testlet – about the same as the second. I could tell this by the amount of time I was taking on each. Sims were varied – some tabs easier than others. Think I found both research items and covered communications. Not sure if I wrote enough on the second communication or not. Praying for the best! Gonna try to sit back and relax for a few weeks while I wait on the score. Hopefully, I'm in wave 1!
To everyone still studying……….Keep the faith……you can do it!
August 1, 2010 at 6:36 pm #242866tcpa85ParticipantOk, I took FAR on July 30th and was totally psyched out by the exam. I started testlet 1 and was surprised at how easy it was. I finished that first testlet in like 20 minutes (which includes double checking them) and then moved onto the next testlet. This is where it got weird for me, I got a couple of slightly more involved questions but I was weirded out because they didn't seem to be the insanely difficult questions that everyone seems to talk about. My exam had a lot of theory questions and I read on the AICPA website that difficult doesn't always mean wordy or long, it just means that the testlet has more questions that are commonly missed by CPA candidates. It did take me longer to complete testlet 2 and an even longer time to complete testlet 3. My questions is, on an exam that is mostly theory is it possible that difficult doesn't necessarily mean wordy or did I just bomb the first testlet without realizing it? Has anyone else had this experience and passed?

REG- 2011August 1, 2010 at 6:55 pm #242867whonis2002Participanttcpa85, I really can't advise on this because I haven't taken the exam as yet, are you saying your exam consisted of mainly theory questions with minimal calculations?
August 1, 2010 at 6:59 pm #242868tcpa85ParticipantYep, my exam had a lot of theory questions. There were still calculations but not a whole lot.

REG- 2011August 1, 2010 at 8:13 pm #242869keeponParticipantI have an odd question. How early before your exam time can you take the exam. For instance, in the past i have arrived at the testing center early and taken it early, about 30 minutes (i think). So if my exam is scheduled for 12 tomorrow could i arrive at 10 and take it if they weren't too busy? I just wanted to see if anybody else has done this. thanks. Also, thanks to the person who described deferred tax assets/liabilities a few pages back, that helped.
AUD 81, REG 65 78, BEC 75, FAR 71 85(8/3/2010)
August 1, 2010 at 9:05 pm #242870MPoni123Participantyou're welcome keepon! glad i could help. 🙂 i always arrive at the testing center anywhere from 1 hour to 45 min early and review in my car for about 15 min. the earliest i have taken an exam is probably 30 min before i was scheduled to. i do think it depends on how busy the testing center is…worse case scenario they can't take you and you just review in your car for a few hours (maybe bring a laptop?) or i would suggest calling them to see how busy they are tomorrow.
done with Module 10! now onto Module 11a. i really do love Cindy. she makes me laugh. my boyfriend thinks i have gone crazy that i am laughing while watching cpa exam review lectures… haha

August 2, 2010 at 3:37 am #242871AnonymousInactivekeepon – I was scheduled to take FAR at 4pm (4pm! for a 4 hour exam!). I took it in downtown Chicago and got downtown at like 1:30PM. I ate a little and reviewed but was antsy so I just went at 3 (an hour early). They had a seat and let me start right away. I say go as early as you want.
August 2, 2010 at 5:09 pm #242872MPoni123ParticipantChiGirl – I have my FAR exam scheduled for 5:30 pm!! I don't mind though, because it gives me that day to review as well before I take it. I will arrive early, too…so I will be outta there by hopefully 9 pm. It takes about 40 min to get to the testing center

based on what you describe, you passed the exam. I did not see my exam getting harder and even the first testlet seemed hard to me this time. Maybe the reason is when I think of harder I think of a lot of calculations. Calculations take a lot of time and I had a lot of them. Somewhere in the middle of the third testlet I figured I am taking too long and I decided to see if I have some easy, two-line questions to knock them out and then come back to the calculations. I clicked on all 15 questions I had left and all of them were long, involving calculations… I am surprised that some of you said their questions were theoretical…

ethics-100August 2, 2010 at 6:56 pm #242874AnonymousInactive@FARbehind: I hope you are right. This is my last section and I just want to be done! I see it's the same for you. I hope you are wrong and that you breezed through it this time! Are you waiting for scores or have you decided to keep studying? Keep us posted when you get the score. I am hoping for a Wave 1 release……..
August 2, 2010 at 7:37 pm #242875FARbehindParticipantThanks ChaFayCPA, I also hope to be in the first wave. I am not studying right now but going through databases of questions and trying to remember questions from the exam and what went wrong. I should find a way to keep up with the material. If I don't pass this time I have to make a change since this would be my third time failing FAR so obviously I am not doing something right. I don't think Becker prepared me well for FAR so if I didn't pass I would probably buy Yeager home study. I don't have much time to waste (2 more windows and only one of them under the current format) so I definitely need to make sure I pass. Good luck to us and let's enjoy some good family summer time while waiting for the scores!

ethics-100August 2, 2010 at 7:45 pm #242876AnonymousInactiveGood luck to those who have already taken FAR…I am rooting for all of you to pass.
I take FAR on Wednesday, I feel farely good about it….but can't seem to get my scores above 68-70%.
Today, I worked on the 2009 & 2010 AICPA released ?'s, for the rest of the day I will be taking quizzes through CPAreviewforfree.com & my Wiley CD.
Tomorrow, I plan on taking the practice exam and reading over my notes (again & again). Then if time do more quizzes.
I really just want this test over with (preferably to pass) so I can focus on something else. I am actually looking forward to REG, just for something different.
I have been doing FAR since the first of June.
August 2, 2010 at 8:05 pm #242877FARbehindParticipantCPA-Valenz,

ethics-100August 2, 2010 at 9:09 pm #242878gabe1475ParticipantFARbehind – Thanks. Are there any others released by the AICPA?
Also question # 23. Can anyone explain why the board members preparing the books for an audit would be considered revenue? I thought the provider has to possess the skills to provide the service, and it does not state that they are accountants.
FAR - 95
AUD - 82
REG - 94
BEC - 84August 2, 2010 at 10:35 pm #242879FARbehindParticipantI think the key is that “specialized skills are required and are possessed by the donor”: It is assumed that the board member possesses the skills to prep the books for audit if he volunteers to do so. Emphasis is put on the job requirement for specialized skills. Someone could argue that dogwalking and being a receptionist requires some specialized skills but hey these questions are not perfect… I know I don't like it either but this is how I remember it.
