Just took the test, I absolutely have no idea on how I did, I tried not to think about questions being easy or difficult and I honestly don't remember.
The only thing that I remember is that in all the Qs with calculations involved my result was always available, so hopefully that's a good sign.
I started the sims with 2h25m left, took my time, feel well about the first sim, was able to find the topic for the written memo in the research tab (and it's also a topic in which I'm VERY familiar) so I think I got that right. Pretty sure about the research tab too.
I feel good about calculation tabs about second sim. Do NOT feel good about the written memo (it was a very generic and abstract topic) and I totally guessed the research tab (it was very poorly worded, I still do not understand what they were asking, seriously).
Oh well, I have to start studying for AUD, so no time to think about FAR anymore….
FAR - 7/26/10 - 95
AUD - 8/10/10 - 88
BEC - 8/31/10 - 88
REG - 10/15/10 - 95July 27, 2010 at 3:30 pm #242821AnonymousInactiveWhat is the usual prep time for FAR…I just talked to Phil Yaeger, he said it is normally 3 months and that I should move my exam back to 8/31. I started studying 6/7/10.
I want to get it over with.
Just wondering everyone else's take.
July 27, 2010 at 3:34 pm #242822financeguyParticipantI just don't understand how people can study for this thing for 3 months…I just don't understand how you cannot be completely burned out and how you can retain the info for that long. I would not push your exam back. I would just study more if you have to. Cramming is better for this exam imo.

I studied full time (at least 40 hrs a week) for about 4 weeks for FAR and felt comfortable with that amount of studying, but I recently graduated college and many of the concepts were fresh in my memory. I would not push back the date anymore in your situation unless you do not feel prepared at this point since you don't want to burnout and lose more than you start retaining.
FAR 7/2 - 88

I think 3 months sounds crazy! You would have to do massive amounts of pre-final reviews, going back through the stuff you have covered like 1 or 2 months ago! Crazy! For all the other sections I did 1 chapter per week and then 2 full weeks of final review, obviously for FAR there is just too many chapters to do that so I did 2 chapters per week and now I have 3 weeks of final review but that is just because I have this class with 2 mock exams to worry about as well. If not it would only be two weeks. This system has worked well for me so far, I have a mock on Friday that I am preparing for and I will use it to let me know where I am at. If you are going back through and still getting 50% on questions though you might want to give yourself a little more time, I would rather study a week or two longer than planned then take it too soon and have to do it again all over. But I would make sure this is not just a pre exam freak out, I always get those when coming up on an exam. Just re evaluate how you do when you go back through the questions, figure out where your strengths are and where you need to work on it a little more. Then decide if you can fix those weaknesses in the time that you have. I would say its better to have an extra week where you feel ready and are not sure what to do with yourself than to have to cram and realize on test day you aren't ready…
July 27, 2010 at 6:46 pm #242826FARbehindParticipant3 months for FAR sounds reasonable to me. If you have a very good memory less might be sufficient. I need to go through the material more than 2 times in order for it to stick. Going back to some material after 2 months just helps reinforce the concepts. There are people who easily cram material and then easily forget. You might know already what type of memory you have. If you excel in everything in college and needed a few hours before an exam you might not need too much time but if you were about average you might need the 3 months and more. With my 3 retakes of this exam I am studying for it since December and I put a lot of hours in.

It takes what it takes to get ready. If you feel ready and want to take the exam this window go for it. Might help shake out the nerves for this test. I know I am worried about the test – wilI I have enough time to study, understand the information, perform well on the test. Just going to put in a solid good effort, take practice tests, and show up Aug 31st and do it! It is all we can do.
July 27, 2010 at 8:13 pm #242828AnonymousInactiveThanks for the inputs….I really appreciate it!!
I'm not ready, right now, I have 8 days, and I'm only half way through the minimum MCQ…which I hope to have completed by Friday. So, I would review Saturday-Tuesday, all day. I took off work Monday and Tuesday.
I may have to reschedule…I will figure that out this weekend.
I was just suprised by what he said, he didn't even ask how many hours I put it in…so, I was just curious what everyone thought.
July 27, 2010 at 10:35 pm #242829VAactgGradParticipantMy study plan for FAR expended 6 weeks. I wished for more time as my exam date approached. I think 7-8 weeks would be adequate if you can devote the time. I'll confess that I did not study as much as I should have…
July 27, 2010 at 11:01 pm #242830MPoni123Participantjust got through the 1st DVD with Yaeger! only about…13 more to go? lol. i think 3 months is a crazy amount of time to study…i am giving myself 5 weeks to prepare for FAR (which might be cutting it close but i want to sit for it by the end of the testing window). if i study 25 hours a week, i think i can do it. aaand this might be my last exam, so i don't wanna delay this thing any more than i have to. plus i will have one more shot in Oct/Nov to sit for it again before the exam changes in 2011.
how's everybody else's studying going?! what materials are you using? where are you in your studying?
AUD - 84; REG - 90; BEC - 79; FAR - 75; ALL DONE!!
July 27, 2010 at 11:44 pm #242831FARbehindParticipantI think the time shouldn't be measured in months, but hours. It all depends. I said 3 months is reasonable but I work full-time, cannot study during work and have 2 children. My kids are older, 12 and 9, not babies, but still I have to pick them up after work, help with homeworks, cook dinner etc. Less time might be needed if you are devoted to the exam only. I wish I could afford that.

ethics-100July 28, 2010 at 3:06 pm #242832MPoni123ParticipantYour study schedule definitely depends on your own schedule – kids, work, etc. If you can study almost full-time or at least the recommended study time…you definitely don't need 3 months. I work full-time but do get the opportunity to study at work during downtime and have had a few weeks off! I also don't have kids and my boyfriend lives an hour away. I am glad I am getting the exam out of the way now before marriage, kids, etc. Obviously that would make the exam harder to get through!
Off to the library soon to start DVD 2 for Yaeger…when does this ever end?! I am not feeling very motivated today…any words of encouragement people?! The forum is pretty quiet…connie where are you?!

I had the exact same feeling while going thru those DVD's for FAR! Module 7 and 11 which have sub sections in them seemed to take forever!! The pace picks up momentum from Module 12 onwards, but it took a while to get to that point, especially since I was doing the mcq's right after the lecture. Good luck!
What did you use for REG? Any tips that you can offer?
