Sounds like a winning plan. FYI: per Becker some of the Becker MCQ are from the CMA exam and are longer and more complex than you would see in the exam. While these are good learning and practice tools – perhaps if you skipped those it woud save you time. Make a list of the key types of problems and ,ake sure you can do those on the exam is helpful.
It is a shame that you can'r provide the actual CPA test score for class credit!

thanks for the tip! That is a really great idea because I do remember Becker gets a little out of control with some of the finance and cost questions! Oh and the way my teacher does his class, if you take the exam in the months of June or July, even if it is still before his class starts, you can use your real exam grade, but if you are like me and took it a month earlier, you can't. So many of my classmates who took the exam before class started like me but just a month later, can use their exams but I can't! Lame! I've just come to accept it though and keep thinking that if I could pass it once, I can pass it again! Thanks again for your tips!
July 26, 2010 at 1:52 pm #242808AnonymousInactiveWell, I am about 1/2 way through my minimum MCQ using Yaeger….I have consistently been scoring high 50s-60s.
With BEC and AUD I was scoring in the 70's first time around.
I test in a week. Any advice on how to get my scores up??

Your scores are great! You will do it! Good luck – Best of luck on FAR.
BEC will come back to you with little effort I would guess.
July 26, 2010 at 2:59 pm #242810OnMyWay75ParticipantI took the beast yesterday and I am 90% confident that good results will be heading my way. I was not able to finish the final simulation, due to running out of time, but feel very confdent in the multiple choice and first simulation. The test deffianlty lived up to its reputation. Each testlet increased with difficulty and the third set of M/C questions was throwing every wrinkle to every scenerio you would ever imagine. In all I was only reluctant with 6 – 8 of my M/C questions two of which I'd be pretty certain are “practice” questions. Good luck to everyone else testing in this window. I'm off to Audit and then I'll be done witht the exam.
July 26, 2010 at 2:59 pm #242811AnonymousInactiveTrying hard to focus on Auditing until I see a topic that reminds me of a FAR exam question and it makes my stomach turn. I can't seem to let it go yet and it's been a week.
Is it August YET?
July 26, 2010 at 3:47 pm #242812AnonymousInactiveI had a very hard time time not getting bogged down with the way FAR went the entire last week. In the exam I left 2 hours for the sims, so finished the 3 mcq testlets in 2 hours. The way the sims were, though I had 2 hours, I didn't need the full 2 hours because I could not completely figure out some of the tabs in both the sims, and in that scenario having enough time doesn't really help. I then started to agonize because I felt “did I sort of rush through the mcq's for this?” I spent half the weekend fretting over this…Finally today feel saner…

Yes it is hard to be reminded of the exam taken but not yet scored. Just think of these concepts as an old friend that you are familiar with and won't have to start from scratch to learn the concept! AUD will be a nice change for you. Review the lectures and do the MCQ. By the time you do this it will make the test seem like old familiar quizzes that you are prepared for. Be sure to read the correct and incorrect responses. It is nice to see the overlap – makes you feel like all tht previous studying is good for something.
You will do well!
July 26, 2010 at 5:04 pm #242814OverwhelmedHGParticipantI feel soooo much better after reading the posts from people who took FAR in the last window & passed, as well as those who have taken it so far in this window. (Jeff's most recent blog post made me feel better too!) I was totally bummed on Friday when I get finished – mainly because I didn't finish my last simulation. My MCQ's weren't terrible – I just took too long on them. I couldn't really tell if they were harder/easier (I never can).
It took me almost 50 minutes with my first testlet – then I realized I needed to speed it up, so my 2nd one went much faster. Then my 3rd one took a long time…leaving me 1.5 hours for sims. Both of my sims were LONG – with lots of calculations and odd concepts. The material I was tested on in these wasn't hard, but the simulations (information given & the way you were supposed to answer) were confusing and nothing like anything I'd practiced. My communications were pretty easy, but my research tab (I know I found the right answer both times) seemed to be more difficult to “search” than in the other exams.
Anyhow, I'm just ready to get the scores in a few weeks so I know if I need to start studying again….HAVE to pass by Nov. 30th or I'll lose BEC.

BEC (77), REG (84), AUD (82), FAR 7/23
July 26, 2010 at 7:04 pm #242815mike01ParticipantI am sure I just bombed FAR. I felt confident going in, way more than I did on audit and bec. Seems like I went brian dead during the exam. All the MC seemed crazy hard, and I left quite a few tabs on both sims. I do think I did well on the communication though. I left some of the tabs empty in the 1st sim because I wanted to make sure I at least answered both communications. I figured out of the 30 percent for the sims I might could get 10 from the communication. I still only had like a minute to spare without doing a number of the tabs in both sims. Just doesn't seem like enough time. I had over an hour left for both bec and audit.
July 26, 2010 at 9:49 pm #242816AnonymousInactive@CPAWannaBe…..If my memory is correct, when you were studying for FAR….your scores were lower in the beninning.
What did you do while you were studying to bring them up?
I test a week from Wednesday, and while I am still doing my minimum MCQ, I am scoring in the 50's-60's….I'm wondering if I need to push my test back and take REG in the next window.
Starting to freak out a bit….I just can't get my scores to come up!!
Thanks,
July 26, 2010 at 11:52 pm #242817AnonymousInactiveI didn't do any practice exams. I know, I know. It will probably bite me in the butt. I did for REG but not FAR. Those practice exams are more difficult than the real exams so instead of doing them, I went through my problems areas and did additional Wiley questions, Becker Final Review and wrote my own notes.
If I fail FAR again I will do things differently, like take the practice exams.
Don't put it off. Get FAR out of the way!! You can pass it.
July 27, 2010 at 1:42 am #242818AnonymousInactiveI guess we have to move to the AUD forum now and hopefully never have to come back to the FAR one! I haven't started studying for AUD yet, except going to the 8 hour Becker class and paying no attention whatsoever :-/ I plan to start studying AUD tomorrow! I scheduled AUD for Aug 8 which I obviously have to reschedule because I rescheduled FAR and it messed up my system. And yes, the book seems half the size and no calculations! Yay!
Best of luck to you CPAWannaBe! (I'll see you in the AUD thread I guess 🙂
July 27, 2010 at 1:48 am #242819AnonymousInactivebig shot cpa,
The AUD thread is so quiet. I'm still living the drama of FAR (still in exam remorse-mode). I am finishing up A1 tomorrow. It is a breath of fresh air compared to FAR. See ya over there 🙂
