I took FAR a few days ago. Was wondering – does the “it gets harder if you do well” concept apply to sims?

I thought my second testlet was definitely harder than my first (yay?!) but the third testlet I couldn't really tell, and the sims I actually thought were quite managable. (I know, right???)

Maybe I did well on the first testlet but then I did so awful on the second one that they sent me back to the easy questions… In any case, I definitely want FAR done before 2011. Wish we got our scores earlier so I knew if I could move on or not.

ps to those of you still scheduled – I definitely got to the point in the few days before FAR where I had to prioritize. There is definitely too much to remember. So let some things go. If you never really got dollar value LIFO or nonmonetary exchanges, just forget about it and focus on remembering what you can do. It'll improve your confidence, and your score (at least I think so).

    Pluto-

No, the sims are independent, so the concept of “do well, expect harder” does not apply to them- thank goodness!!

I've heard people saying that they simply did not notice an increase in the difficulty level between the testlets, but still have passed. The waiting sure sucks, but keep your hopes up!

Your FAR advice makes sense, I'm going to follow that, am taking the exam on monday!

Does anyone know what it means if you got several questions on almost the same kind of problem? Is it chance or does that mean I must have really done poorly on them?

Don't know, but on both of my BEC exams I had several problems that were repeats pf the same type of problem. On the last exam I think I had 2 of the problems done correctly and maybe the other one was incorrect. It is most likely just a random draw,,,,,

I think it's random and it happened to me a lot. It sometimes happens to the point that I start taking notes on the topic using the information in the questions to be used in future questions on the topic just in case. I even had the exact same question in 2 different testlets during the same exam. The system obviously couldn't factor in the previous questions given to you. It is not fair, what if you don't know the question or this topic is your only weak topic and they keep asking qs on the topic… If they pretend to have a smart, psychometric and blah blah exam they should fix this simple problem…

How to pass FAR: Ok. First of all, I am sure I have average intelligence since I had to work extremely hard (harder than most) for most of my educational adventures. Setting that aside, I believe the “trick” is to not get involved in the text to much. Basic concepts is all you need to understand from the book. You will not read the book 3 times and get the information, unless you are gifted intellectually and consume everything you read (NOT ME!!!!). So, I recommend to outline the book, make notes you understand and skip the stuff you spend hours and hours on and still don't get. This should not take a lot of time, because you are just trying to understand concepts. Next, I would work every multiple choice question 2 or 3 times. Here was the key for me, not only did I do the multiple choice questions, but I READ ALL THE INCORRECT ANSWERS ALSO, this helps you to understand why the other answer's are wrong and additionally reaffirms other material. I used Gleim questions, inexpensive but thorough. Gleim has study questions, about 2000 or so, they are the same as Becker's and everyone else's, I tried them all, believe me!!!!!!!!!!! I even used an old BECKER BOOK (sorry Jeff), the basic concepts do not change!!!!!!! After I did all the study questions (2000 or so) I then took testlets in 30 question increments, just like the exam. Once I was scoring about an average of 85% I knew I was ready to take the exam. Look, this is the hardest thing I have ever done and probably the hardest thing many of you have had to do, repetition is the key. I spent $50 for the Gleim MC questions and $25 for a two year old Becker book. The exam is 70% MC question's and Becker and Gleim seem to have very similar questions, if not exact, so don't waste your money.

Do not get frustrated when you score 40% on a study session, review it and try to understand the material. Do not get frustrated when there are question's that you just can't answer/understand. Do not get caught up on the very very lengthy questions, for example, figuring out the quarterly DEPS with options and warrants. It takes a very long time to go through all these questions, especially 2 or 3 times-then doing test sessions as I recommend. You can do it, I did.

Not to burn any bridges, but I used Becker lectures, sims, mc, and flashcards a few years ago and gave up… I do believe I did not put enough time in then to pass (i got a 62,67,68,73), but I believe Becker can be to much to go through, especially since 70% is MC. I started using Gleim about 3 months ago and all the MC questions are basically the same, except Gleim are inexpensive and you get to keep them for life. THE SIMS ARE ALWAYS, FOR ME ANYWAY, SO “FAR” OUT THERE THAT THE ONLY TIME I PASSED FAR IS WHEN I DIDN'T STUDY FOR THEM.

Of course, you must budget your time and make sure you have at least 50 to 60 minutes for each sim and write well thought out and exspressive answer's to your communication questions. FILL IN EVERYTHING IN THE SIMS, DON'T RUN OUT OF TIME, EVEN IF YOU GUESS… I took this exam many, many times and STUDIED THE WRONG WAY- I spent to much time trying to understand the text, simulations, lectures, multiple choice questions, flashcards….GIVE ME A BREAK. Outline the book, study the multiple choice questions until you puke (6-8 weeks, remember to read wrong answer's too), write great communications, and leave a awful lot of time to answer the sims (answer them all even if you guess)!!!!!!!!! Anyway, I've been waiting to write this post for a very long time. I think I finally realize how to pass these exams. HOLY CRAP. Any questions e-mail me dolphan31171@ca.rr.com

Well, here goes to another weekend of studying for FAR! It's crunch time! Take the exam on 7/31. I appreciate the encouragement on this site and hearing about how others have triumphed in the face of adversity. Keep up the good work! Be encouraged and keep the faith! Remember “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”

Yes, another FAR-out weekend. This is the eighth day in a row I have shut myself off from the rest of the world. This had better work. I have put in over 160 hours in my re-study. Seriously, I don't know if I can go through this again if I fail!

How are your studies going? Do you feel more comfortable with the topics that were giving you trouble before? Doubt we could ever feel comfortable with all of it. Have you been able to go through lots of MCQ? Are you remembering more of the concepts than last May? Bet you are!

Get plenty of rest the night before the test. On the way to the test picture that the test will be populated with lots of questions that you know how to work, stay calm and focused. Picture your happiness when click on your grade and it is a passing score.

    We are pulling for you!

    dolphan,

Thanks for your post. I must admit it is more discoraging than optimistic. I cannot go though what you went through, going to the exams so many times… I really think that we should understand the concepts in FAR to pass (most of all 4). And maybe not very deep understanding but good enough understanding. I hope you learned from all those attempts. If you go through the same process for the other 2 exams you risk losing credits and this is not fun, I suspect. You need to pass them more quickly this time. I agree with you on time management and this will be my focus this time. My goal is to not run out of time. Let's see what happens. Good luck to you!
