Stocks and bonds and leases, oh my!

Does anyone know if we will need to memorize present value tables, or is anything provided (she asked hopefully?).

I took both of my Becker final exams this week and got about 80% on the MC and killed the sims. I hope that means I'm well prepared! I am consistently getting around 85% on my MCQ progress tests.

I have always heard people do better on the real exam. This was true for me for audit, where I was scoring around 85% on the final exams and ended up with a 90 on the exam. But…the sims were killer.

    AUD - 5/29/14 - 90
    FAR - 7/1/14 - 90
    BEC - 7/18/14 - 88
    REG - 8/18/14

I was under the impression that if you have Prefer stock converted into common shares, you only include the converted CS on dilutive EPS and not basic. Am I wrong? I just saw a problem that required basic EPS calculation for the weighted average and they included PS converted into CS.

    @Gian

If the prefrred stock is converted during the period you include those converted stocks in your Basic EPS calculation. We calculate diluted EPS for those stocks that are not yet converted and if they have dilution effect (if they were conveted does the diluted EPS will be lower than basic EPS). Hope it helps!!!

How is everyone coming? I am at a stand still…..I need to be doing something but this day just didn't start off good. I only did a few note cards, went to the dentist with my husband, studying was impossible…..back home and trying to regroup.

Freaking out!! 2 weeks until FAR and I have 3 chapters left of Becker. Thinking about purchasing NINJA Audio or Blitz. Does anyone know what the difference is?! Which is suggested over the other? Any tips for the next 2 weeks? I'm testing on July 11 and work full time. Any guidance is much appreciated 🙂

@thechapman: I got my books out and ready to go at it. Too much coffee earlier today so I guess I'll be drinking greentea,

@SG0116: I think blitz has the power point with audio of each section and the audio is the notes per jeff voice. I don't know anything else to do with these few days left but to say mcq. That's what we are doing mcq's and preparing to write notes until my fingers literally cramp up…lol seriously mcq's is the idea, taking notes on wrong answers. and others have said notes on journal entries as well. I have not practiced sims so can't speak to that.

Breathe, you're not alone in panic mode.

    Oh yeah,

DD is at a sleepover, and I was supposed to have quality time with DH, but I'm totally freaking on bonds, so I'm spending the night with Roger and Jeff and a cold frosty one. Happy Friday!

Can someone explain this question to me?

Brik Co. purchased 30% of Sled Co.'s outstanding common stock on December 31 for $200,000. On that date Sled's SE was $500,000, and the FV of it's Identifiable net assets was $600,000. What amount of goodwill should Brik ATTRIBUTE to this acquisition?

    a. 30000

    b. 0

    c. 20000

    d. 50000

Now, I answered B, but the correct answer was C $20000. I understand how to get 20,000… very similar to partial GW method under IFRS.

Am i correct in assuming the key word here is ATTRIBUTE? If the question had said what amount of GW should have been booked it'd be a different answer, correct?

    thank you much!

    AUD: 5/27 82!
    FAR: 7/3 80!
    REG: 7/21 76!
    BEC: 8/8 78!

Yes attribute is the key word. We won't recognize the goodwill on the books but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
