on wiley I think the new site is fine. I wasn't too attached to the last one, this one seems more user friendly too me and now they've finally brought in the study mode.

Hello Everybody… I made my appointment today to take FAR on July 3. I'm using CPA Excel and a bunch of Ninja Stuff. 😛

This will be my first attempt with the CPA Exam, and I'm currently close to finishing all the material in CPA Excel to start to review everything as soon as possible. I made the appointment TODAY, so I came home FEELING THE PRESSURE!! lol !

    @orialis welcome aboard dude!

How long did it take you to finish the CPAexcel stuff? I am nearing the end but it's taking for ever to get there.

@ahugemistake It would be “Dudette” !! hehe !!! Well it took me TOO LONG. I've been out of college for three years so a lot of the material simply wasn't “there” anymore, so it was like trying to learn everything all over again by myself and it's so much material… I started to study for it FULLY by March (give or take)… 😕

I know… HORRIBLE! It's been a process. lol How about you?

@ahugemistake … Thanks for answering my reply. Sorry its taken a while to get back, new work load and a cold have kept me away.

I actually asked because there was a thread here recently where someone had said they skipped hedging, and what should they cram for. Someone else said know how to distinguish a FV hedge from a CF hedge.

Honestly, I'm not horrible with hedges, but I did not focus on the topics in CPAexcel, and after reading that I realized I can't really tell the difference between those types of hedges.

    Hence the question 😉

BTW, ahugemistake, we are in a similar boat. Using CPAexcel, father (of 1 toddler), and taking the exam in July.

    Good luck!

Does anyone else find the initial FAR videos to be boring that you want to shoot yourself in the foot so you can leave the library with a valid excuse?

I am using CPAexcel as well.

No matter what material you use the beginning its always rough. Hang in there, the fun stuff is coming! I'm right there with you. I'm dying to get over the dry stuff so I can bust out my favorite Casio calculator (man i wish they would let me use it during the exam)

Golfball. Yes when I did the first lectures for rogers I was

    Bored out of my mind.

It's gets better as you move along.

    Then it goes overwhelming.

    Then it's confusion from hell

Finally it starts making sense but you are running out of time as the exam is getting closer and closer. You scramble to

Do as much as you can before the big day.

    Hi All,

Does the answer sound right to you? I think it should be 1190000

On December 31, 20X2, the Board of Directors of A committed to a plan to discontinue the operations of its B division in 20X3. A estimated that B's 20X3 operating loss would be $500,000 and that the proceeds from the disposal of the segment's assets will be $300,000 less than their carrying amounts. B's 20X2 operating loss was $1,400,000. A's effective tax rate is 30%.

In its 20X2 income statement, what amount should A report as loss from discontinued operations?

    Right answer (A)

    a

    $980,000

    b

    $1,330,000

    c

    $1,400,000

    d

    $1,900,000

    Hi Anna,

I'm no expert but I too am getting 1,190,000

    (300 + 1400) * 0.7

For some reason they are excluding the 300 from the calculation. Maybe its because they “anticipate” the fair value to drop next year (as appose to recognizing an impairment loss based on the “current” fair value)

I now think that because they don't mention fair value and just say “the proceeds from the disposal of the segment's assets will be $300,000 less than their carrying amounts”, there is no impairment, so 300000 is not recognized in 2002. Stupid question!
