1st full week of studying for my retake. I jumped right into Ninja MCQ, and about half way done. My average score is 78-the topics I am weak on are no surpise. I started to re-write my own notes today, but that was so de-motivating, I didn’t get very far. Tomorrow I need to re-write my notes (they are disjointed from my first test, I want to re-write them by topic in a new notebook). I really need to re-read my Becker book on acquisitions, equity method, and non-monetary exchanges so far. My plan is to get through the rest of the Ninja MCQ by end of next week, and re-write the rest of my notes. I then plan on printing out Ninja notes (didn’t utilize last time) and then jump into SIMS, while re-doing the missed MCQ in Ninja and continue re-reading the book. How are others approaching their re-take?

Since it was mentioned. I am going to focus a little more on sims too. I think at least knowing how to calculate or find the answer will be a big help. I am in no wise believing I will see the same sims on the test. But I certainly want to be ready when I walk in and out of that exam. 🙂

I am about 2 and a half weeks out. I just transitioned over to ninja mcq, and feel so underprepared now! I feel like I am seeing a lot of stuff becker did not touch… anyone else feel that way?

@mskcle-Ninja will shake your confidence-but better get beaten up in preparation than a real fight!
@Tncincy-I have to say that going through the SIMS after the MCQ is very beneficial, especially if you follow the blueprint “analysis” type topics. Sometimes you think you know it conceptually and then they ask you to book an entry and you don't remember how to do that-maybe that's just me, but I work in fund accounting so a lot of lease, bond and pension accounting is foreign to me. I have the basics down:) LOL!

@tncincy-check out this thread on the forum-

a couple of folks annotated the Becker and Ninja SIMS according to the blueprint-this is what I have used as my SIM study guide:

Thanks anyatver, I spent a little time reading some of the posts there. Wow, it was an informative exchange. I have those mcq ninja sims. Now who has a better book to use to follow the topics. Wiley book is so huge until I get sick and muscle aches thinking about using it. I have the ninja book not too sure if I am liking it.

Hey guys – I just wanted to chime in since I'll be taking FAR on 3/2 as well (but this is not my retake). I have been using Becker, and I recently went through all the materials last week, and I'm now reviewing all the materials by skimming through the book and banging out MCQs in each module.

F1 and F2 weren't bad at all, but once I got into F3-F6, it just became an information overload….. I'm still trying to see whether I should get Ninja MCQs to supplement my studies or not..and I'm still waiting for Jeff to make that announcement about the new production purchase option he mentioned not too long ago.

I honestly found Becker MCQ to not be bad compared to Ninja.. I average around 90 on becker progress tests for MCQ in sets of 36 but can't get above a 70 average on ninja for sets of 30. I also think I have been doing too many Ninja MCQ this week as I have got through 780 questions since Monday but I can't help myself since reading the becker book for the 4th time isn't as fun. What does everyone else shooting for per day?

@ Big4BeanCounter and msckle-I have to say that I have always supplemented with Ninja-I find that it gives you the extra set of MCQs you need and now having used Ninja primarily and switching to Becker, I find that there is always benefit to switching testbanks, because even if you know why everything is wrong and why everything is right, you get complacent regardless of what testbank you are using. @msckle-I don't have a set number a day-I try to do about 100, it doesn't always work that way. But I thik 780 in 3 days is really good!

I might try this reading technique to re-take FAR. I admit that I didn't read the book much before I sat for FAR, after watching this I might give this a shot.

Does the Gleim TB really come with a textbook?

why do people waste time reading the AICPA blueprints, if your using a review software that cost a bunch of $$ like Roger, Becker, etc.

I'm sure Roger and Becker, are doing their due diligence to include only DRS, TBS & MCQs that will be tested. It's kind of their job to know the blueprints, not mine. That's why I pay them money, so that I don't have to look at blueprints.

@Sir Plus-we aren't really reading the blueprints, but if an AICPA representative in a webinar says that anything labeled “Analysis” is a fair game for a SIM, I am going to want to know this area in and out. The topics are consistent with what I have seen on my exam in November. I guess it's not necessary if you pass, but if you fail once you want to throw everything you have at this thing:)

Can someone please explain this to me:

When converting cash to accrual basis why do you add a decrease in accounts payable. To me that means cash went out the door and you would deduct the amount. What am I missing?
