Guccimane, you are right. I also dont agree with some of their answers in the book. On Audit in the book they saying that compilation is a non attest service. But according to AICPA compilation is a attest service but not an assurance service. Non attest service are only tax and consultation. Wiley book is also saying that independence is not required for compilation services but AICPA says independence is required for compilation.

Dont know which review course to use, since i can't afford the expensive ones.

    DK,

Independence is not required for a comp engagement, but I do believe it has to be disclosed in the comp report when a lack of independence exists.

    FAR: 81 (1/20) AUD: 88 (2/27) REG: 91 (4/19) BEC: 75 (5/20)

    Ga Jone,

But according to AICPA standard ET Section 102-2, Certain professional engagements, such as audits, reviews, and other attest services, require independence.

And compilation is an attest engagement.

I comp is not an attest engagement. That is where you are confused.

Just took FAR today, don't know how I could have passed it. The second testlet was impossible, i had to mark 18 of them for review. I think I did between good and average on the other 2 testlets and the sims, but that second one really hurt. Gov't accounting sucks.

    Hi RahulCPA:

I think that good preparation in FAR will be easy for you due to your past experience in three exams. It is the best planning to take this exam in the end

Alright, so I've wrapped up today by doing the following:

1 – I worked the 50 AICPA released questions from 2009 via Becker Online

2 – I reviewed flashcards for F1-F9 pulling aside the vital ones for a last minute review tomorrow morning (exam is at Noon)

3 – Re-worked about 90% of the Supplemental Questions for F1-F9, scoring in the 60-70% range

Time to get some rest and just work my way through the exam tomorrow as calmly as possible. Here's my exam plan of attack, please let me know if you think it will back fire…

I plan to invest most my time in the MC…bad idea?:

    1st Testlet: 53MIN (3:07 Min Left)

    2nd Testlet: 55MIN (2:12 Min Left)

    3rd Testlet: 52MIN (1:20 Min Left)

    4th Testlet: 25MIN – COM/RES (:55 Min Left)

    4th Testlet: 15MIN – PROBLEM TABS (:40 Min Left)

    5th Testlet: 25MIN – COM/RES (:15 Min Left)

    5th Testlet: 15MIN – PROBLEM TABS (:0 Min Left)

Am I not leaving enough time for the Sims?

    ? AUD - 87 (8/12/09)
    ? REG - 77 (1/15/10
    ? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)
    ? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)

Glogo, your time allotment for each section (MC & sims) looks good just like most have suggested & seems to fit right but I am not sure if 15 min for the problem tabs is enough. Might be just the draw of questions I had for FAR but I needed more time on the problems. I did spend too much time on the research in AUD that might not be worth many points. Take the time you need for the communication though since that is worth so much but try to give yourself enough for the problems. Others should be able to answer with their experience & someone I am sure knows about the point value but I think it might be better to do the communication, then problem tabs then the research last. Like I said, was just my experience w/ FAR & maybe just mine, but I had difficult problems that took a bit of time. Had I spent more time w/ research, I would have missed some points in the problems – Lose 5 points just to save 1 (or whatever the point value is). Just my $.02 worth. Best of luck to you.

    Hi Glogo:

I think that time allocation is not right strategy to pass FAR exam., because in this exam, the first testlet may be very easy and you may finish it in less than 30 minuts, due to time allocation, you may become more careful and finish it in 45 minutes (wastage of 15 minutes). Actually, you can't proceed in tricky or difficult testlets but you have to understand the problem which needs time. The easy testlets will be under your control and you may spend more time there. I suggest that you may prepare a strategy but don't waste your time in easy testlest which will be mostly Testlet 1

    Thanks everyone for their advice.

Based on what I'm reading, I should probably shoot to get testlet one done a little faster, will need more time on testlet two, and will also need to finish testlet three in at a decent time, leaving a little more time for the I'm sure, math intensive, SIMs.

Thanks everyone, I'll let you know about my experience after.

    glogo,

I agree with the others. I allotted 45 minutes each for the first 3 testlets, but should've done the first one in less time instead of thinking I was “good on time”. The second testlet will need more time.

My other fatal mistake was wasting time on the research questions. The first one I got easily and the other was not difficult, but I just couldn't find it and it drove me crazy!

Please post how you feel afterwards.

BTW, you are a machine to have done so many questions yesterday. I have a feeling you will do well.
