Chapter 8 (Government) Completed Today – To Complete Chapter 9 (Non-for-Profit) Tomorrow.

Then, Review, Review, Review, until 2/26… That being said, without violating any disclosure rules… can anyone shed some light on how important Chapter 8 and Chapter 9 are in the grand scheme of things? Becker suggests that there are anywhere from 7 to 11 MC questions on these topics… everyone I've spoke to says the following:

“Chapters 2-7 of Becker are the “Meat & Potatoes” of this exam, however blow-off 8 and 9…”

    Thoughts?

    ? AUD - 87 (8/12/09)
    ? REG - 77 (1/15/10
    ? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)
    ? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)

@ Glogo….I was always told NEVER to blow off Chapter 8 and 9 mainly because it wasn't taught in most colleges and the material is a lot different from what accountant students/professionals are accustomed too. I still think you should review the information because no one really knows how much points these questions are worth. So even though only 7 – 11 questions may come..they may be weighted more heavily.

I take FARE on the 26-Feb too Glogo! Now I think about it…I think we took REGS back in November around the same time. Glogo…what are you doing as your final review?

According to the Content Specification Outline, Gov't Accounting and NFP Accounting account for 20% of the FAR exam combined.

Don't sluff them off. With that said, I skipped NFP accounting due to running out of time and I still passed. I was guessing on every NFP question though…I must have guessed right a time or two.

I took FAR 02/11/2010 with 2009 materials, but I am not satisfied with my performance .Is it normal for the questions to be so different.. Becker vs actual test .Half of the time I was lost and in the end, short of time .I skipped one tab on the simulation entirely .What are my chances of passing? Anyone who has skipped a section on simulation and still passed?

A girl I work with left all the tabs except the research and written ones blank on a REG simulation and passed with a score in the 80s, so you can definitely still pass. Sometimes the simulations are pretest questions and don't count too. Goodluck!

    glogo2384,

Do not blow off L-8 and L-9 gov't. and non-profit unless you have had some experience with them. I never had so I did study them. Believe me, they are on the exam. I can't remember exactly how many questions, but it was significant enough to pass or fail me. I thought those were a walk in the park compared to bonds, pensions, deferred taxes, etc. Easy points!

That's good to know ,but of course it depends on my performance on the MCQs .I just hope I get through this, dont want to go back and study again .

Thanks everyone for the insight! I won't blow them off… I'll work NFP tomorrow. Starting Wednesday I am going to review by using the Final Review Becker Book. I am going to go topic by topic (as the final review dictates) then supplement those with the related MC questions (basically going to do all MC again) from the Passmaster… I will also try to work the SIMs again. This weekend, when I take it a little lighter, I will work the ‘Final Exams' but more or less…questions, questions, questions until 2/26.

Stacy, I took REG in November and got a 74! Argh, painful… so I retook it on 1/15 and am now waiting for my score. I am going crazy thinking about it. I just need 1 damn point!!!

    ? AUD - 87 (8/12/09)
    ? REG - 77 (1/15/10
    ? BEC - 77 (1/6/09 - Expired) / 79 (11/18/10)
    ? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)

Studybuddy, never blow off the governmental and NFP it is 20% and you will lose 10% on the Sims any way, then you are putting all of your study efforts behind your back. try to do anything that makes you feel comfortable about the exam before you set for the part. My advice to you on governmental accounting is to know what is and is not a governmental fund as it is the one that goes against any accountant believes, then there is a table by the end of the L8 (I believe it is actually the last page just before the questions) in Becker materials which if you spent quality time with it, and made your own memory marks that will enough to kill L8. Hope that helped.

I didn't skip any tabs in the sims, pretty straight forward and understood what they wanted, just don't know if I answered most of it correctly…………… do you think they're psychologists will think I am guessing because I answered everything this time?

I am taking FAR on April 1. I have been studying since January 11 and I stopped at chapter 5 and went back to read chapters 1-5 again in order to get some things that were difficult to me. Does anyone here practice the written communication every time you do a simulation???????

Christian2823….it depends on how comfortable you are with writing. I did 1 writing simulation just to get a feel for the format and felt doing more would be wasting time. If you are good with just doing that, I would suggest reading the answer (assuming Becker) just to become more confident. The content is well written so it may help you from a theory standpoint.

Thank you Jeffm. I am so anxious to take this exam. Do you know if consolidation of financial statements is being tested in the exam?
