    CPA EXAM - Passed

For those who may want a suggestion or want to know how I passed far on my first try in the 80's. I used Becker, studied for about 4 weeks, 1 week casually doing 1 chapter, then the other 8 chapters in 3 weeks. I work from 8am-8pm so i would get home at 9pm during weekdays, study till 12 or 1 am. then on weekends, both saturday and sunday i would wake up at 9am, study till 1 am the next day (with a few 20-30 minute breaks thruout the day). I did this for 3 weeks and the day before the test I finished chapter 8, and rushed thru chapter 9…finished chapter 9 about 8pm the night before the test. Having gone thru each chapter once, I then started my review and it went from 8pm to 4am, test at 1pm an hour away (not fun). so not much sleep, a quick review….the review is key. spend about 1.5-3 hours going over each chapter within the 2 days b4 the exam, going over topics that are important in the chapter and doing the 15-20 problems in the book at the end of each chapter. then if you have time do some of the passmaster problems for each chapter. maybe u need more than 3 weeks to study for far :(.

try not to blow off non prof/gove…if you have to blow one off i suggest not doing non prof, but if u have time do both as there are a ton of questions on these. For these 2 last chapters know the very basics and u will know 75% of the ch 8/9 questions on the test. ALso, i wouldnt stress too much about the simulation. I know for a fact that I bombed both of the simulations and probably got under 50% correct on them, but somehow I got Stronger than other passing people. If you are going to master one thing I would try and do really well on the communication/memo its 10% of the entire test and doesnt take that long. I got Weaker score on that part :(.

I either really knew the material or those gotcha questions got me. Mainly stuff where you either know it or you don't. The 3rd testlet took the longest not sure if I was just tired….The sims weren't as bad as people are claiming, must of got lucky. Its up to fate now.

    More advice needed.

Everyone, it's been a crazy past few weeks for me. I haven't been able to focus with everything going on (grandma's passing, awaiting my REG score, and studying for FAR)… that being said… I started to hit FAR again today. I am using Becker and my test is scheduled for 2/26. By my calculation, that's 3 weeks from tomorrow… sounds like enough prep time, but with FAR, I'm not sure….

Status: I wrapped up F-2 today and started on F-3. I study for approx. 7 hours a day from basically 9AM to 5PM (with some bathroom breaks in between). I shoot to get a lecture in and do the questions in that time frame, I also touch on the SIMs. However, with FAR, I find that I am not absorbing enough and am scoring pretty low on MCs ?'s – Averaged in the 50-60% for F-1 and F-2 material. ALL THE ABOVE BEING SAID…

Can you please give me some advice/insight on how to best approach this review material? What are some methods that worked with you and Becker? Do the lectures first? Then the questions? Then the SIMs? Should I re-write the outline?! I am just panicing because I have 7 chapters left and the first 2 didn't really go well, and I have 3 weeks left… ANY ADVICE would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    ? FAR - 75 (2/11/11)

Taking FAR on 2/25, and I gotta tell ya, its kicking my butt. I'm in Becker and just finished the live class last week. Working the questions, have not yet worked a single sim, but feel in 3 weeks I should be comfortable enough to pass. The problem is the Becker courses are part of my master's degree, so I begin Auditing tomorrow! I'm going to have lots of info scattered about my brain…

Just finished doing the multiple choice for section 5 on FAR from Becker, that was one of the worst experiences ever, I had to read each question like 5 times, bonds are impossible, I sure hope the questions aren't as confusing on the actual exam as they are in the becker material, that was torture. I just finished and I already forget every question I read. I just want it to end, I can't take it anymore.

Yeah the bonds section was brutal.

Glogo, first of all, I didnt pass FAR the first time. I got a 62. Studied somemore and got a 71. I knew coming out of the exam that i had missed it but knew I had done better. I was fired up about a 9 point jump. Becker Final Review (live session in Atlanta helped).

Studied for three months on FAR only then passed with a 85 (yes, the score surprised me). Anyway, watching the lectures three times helps. Each time something else gets clarified. I watched the lectures then did the MCs. After three weeks for three chapters, I went back and did the supplementals questions. I took the Becker Final Review again (at home via CD this time). Rested one whole day and took the FAR exam. I didnt finish the second SIM. I did the comm. tab and threw some number out on the other tabs.

Bottom line; FAR is passed in the three MCs testlet….just my opionion.

REG 75, BEC 77, AUD 66,74,80 FAR 62,71,85 feels good to be done!!!!!

TNcandidate1 – I agree with your last statement. I also believe the the multiple choice questions can make or break or exam. Since those 90 multiple choice questions are worth 70% of your exam, if you do poorly it is extremely difficult to pass.

Can you believe that I just started to study for FAR and I guess that I won't be able to pass it that easy. I have successfully completed the other three parts without any hassles. However, I think FAR will set me up for failure. Please let me know how to prepare for this section. I really really need help.

Ahhhh nothing better than a bowl of Coco Puffs and Becker…. yeahhhhhh righttttt lol

My advice is slow and steady so everything sinks in. Don't get overwhelmed by FAR and what helps me is just to plug along section by section.
