Has Anyone Thought FAR was easy after using Becker? - Page 2

I took FAR last week after completing 100% of Beckers program. I was consistently scoring 75+ on the pass master questions and the same on the 2 final exams. The actual exam, however, seemed too easy. The only thing I can think of is that I was getting “moderate” testlets, but that would mean I wasn’t performing well. On each test let there were 3-5 MCQ I was unsure of, but certainly only missing 4 would result in getting difficult questions on testlet 2 and 3. The sims were difficult but I feel as if I did well enough on them for it not to be an issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you end up passing or failing?

I used Becker and supplemented gvnt'l with Ninja MCQ because I had hard time getting a grasp of fund accounting. Otherwise, I thought Becker covered topics very well. I did all the questions twice and reviewed lectures/made flash cards on questions I got wrong the first time.

    AUD - 90
    REG - 78
    BEC - 84
    FAR - 91 woo hoooo!!

I used Becker and thought that the first testlet was a joke compared to Becker. Then the second one came and it was downhill from there. I'm hoping this means that I completely destroyed the 1st testlet (i.e. got 27+ correct) because the 2nd one tested very obscure topics and often not only asked me to recall obscure topics but then APPLY them to a situation on top of it.

I haven't gotten a score back, but if I were to hazard a guess, I'd say Becker prepares you really damn well for the moderate questions, but the CPA exam will crush any “difficult” question Becker can possibly give you. The SIMS are honestly a luck of the draw. Either they test on subjects you are familiar with or they don't. Either the research question is straightforward and you find it within 5 minutes, or it's convoluted and makes you make an educated guess as to which section best addresses the instructions.

Those of you that have passed, have you ever walked into the exam feeling like you forgot half of what you learned and still passed?

For FAR. I am also using Becker, and it does a great job of teaching you this stuff, however by the time i do 4, i've forgotten all about 1, by the time i get to 6+ , forgot all about 2-4, etc. you know what i mean?

@kpb. Yes, I know what you mean, and yes, I felt like I forgot half of it when I took the exam. My testlets went medium – HOLY CRAP I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING – medium. I passed with a 79, which isn't a wide-margin but I'm happy enough 🙂

Just so everyone knows I passed FAR so obviously the MCQ were as easy as I thought. The SIMS were brutal though, so that's got to be the reason why I didn't score higher. Either way, I win, FAR!!!

I took the slacker method of studying while I was going after FAR. Didn't do all the MCQs, didn't do any progress test, and skipped chapters 9 and 10. Since I didn't put forth max effort, I thought I totally bombed the exam. I thought the exam questions were easier than Becker, but there were numerous questions I never seen before. Even the one I knew, they were asked in a different way that I was confused often. I couldn't finish the exam on time as I spent roughly 45 minutes on the last sim and still couldn't figure it out. I believed the saving grace was that I didn't waste time on questions I wasn't sure about. I simplify guessed the most likely answer and moved forward. I was pretty sure I scored around 60 and was pleasantly surprised with a 87. But overall I thought Becker material was much harder than the exam.

    FAR - Aug 2013 Passed
    REG - DEC 2013 Passed
    BEC - FEB 2014 Passed
    AUD - MAY 2014 Passed

@Jstay: I'd say yes and no that Becker “prepared me” for the obscure topics. Yes in that they had it, but no in that it wasn't emphasized enough. Honestly though, there's only so much you can do for FAR and I wouldn't worry too much about the obscure stuff. Read it and whatever sticks, sticks. Without giving info on the content of the test, the most I'll say is that I felt that often times if the exam asks about some security or something that you've never heard of or didn't practice much, most likely they're testing some other concept within the context of another topic (hoepfully that makes sense).

But anyway, I didn't sweat the details too much and still passed with 84. I think my score could have been even higher since I could very easily have missed the research question and given that the SIMS didn't ask about anything I knew very well and were all my “meh” areas. Becker does a great job of preparing you for the meat and potatoes but nobody is going to prep you for when the CPA throws you some random seasonings. The good news is if that happens, it likely means you're crushing the MC to warrant those curveballs.

for the last 3 people that responded,

thanks so much for giving us HOPE!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so jealous of the people who don't put in as much effort and still manage to pass, congratulations to you! I wish i could do the same but I can't wrap my head around not studying for these things… I do agree becker's questions are way too hard.

hoping for a pass on Monday! Then i wait two weeks to find out.
