I also recommend a CRAM course. I was studying using Wiley CPA Excel and Ninja MCQ banks before for FAR. I had gotten 65 73 72 73 before, and I needed to pass before an exam credit expired. I ran into Roger at a CPA firm function and he recommended i take his cram course for my last two exams, FAR and REG; best advice of my life! 4-6 weeks of studying with his CRAM and supplementing with ninja helped me pass FAR and REG with a 75 and 77! Maybe it was sheer luck as well… But the cram really helped because there was an outline of concepts and watching his video lectures helped clarify some weak areas.

    AUD: 77 (4/21/15),
    BEC: 74 (8/25/15), 79 (1/12/16),
    FAR: 65 (2/27/15), 73 (7/27/15), 72 (11/16/15), 73 (7/13/16), 75 (10/14/16)
    REG: 57 (5/17/16), 74 (8/16/16), 77 (10/21/16)

Completed 4 exams in 11 tries within 18 months.

    CA PETH: 82 (10/17), 92 (11/17)

I took my first shot at FAR today! Honestly it was not as hard as I expected, but that could also be a bad sign… I definitely thought It was easier than a lot of Roger and Ninja questions.
I finished all MCQs in 55 minutes and submitted with about 20 min to spare. I think there were half a dozen MCQ I was unsure about. The second testlet seemed to be slightly more difficult but not consistently every question. Both testlets were light on calculations.
I was unsure on like two to three Sims, but on those I'm sure I got at least partial credit. The DRS were pretty straightforward. My research sim, surprisingly, seemed way out there and I wasn't able to find a straight answer for it, so that worries me a little. (Are research Sims ever Pretest?)
I was a little bummed to not see some topics I worked really hard to learn, and vice versa. Definitely should not have taken smaller topics for granted!
Overall though, I believe it went well, and while I can't say with confidence that I think I passed, I am at least cautiously optimistic. Which I think is a good place to be.
I spent the last day and a half relaxing besides some casual note review, which really helped me recover from my study burn out and feel confident and prepared going in.
Taking two days off to clean my messy messy house and then jumping in to Aud!

    FAR - 85 (12/17)
    AUD - 80 (1/18)
    REG - 83 (6/18)
    BEC - 85 (7/18)

    Ethics - 95

Thank you all for the tips, and @itooshallpass thanks for sharing your experience in such detail! Really nice actually hearing from others' experiences… not a lot of ppl seem to understand this struggle haha. Hoping we all pass soon!

Also @itooshallpass from my understanding, if there are 2 research sims in your exam (I only know of one person who actually had this happen to them) then one of those is likely the pre-test sim. Otherwise research is typically not a pre-test but hoping you got lots of points on the others!

    Audit - 79

    BEC - 64, 81!

    FAR - 63, 56, 53, 75!!

    Reg - 72, 72, 76!

Copying and pasting from a different thread:

Took it again after getting a 74 on my last try. Was supposed to be my last part. But it looks like I failed again, and will be starting the whole process over again, since I lose credit for BEC and AUD in December and will unlikely be able to pass all three before I lose credit for REG.

Went in. Took more time on the MCQ since that was my weakest point when I first took it in Q2. I'm not sure if it helped. There were some MCQs that I did spot the mistake I would've made if I had tried to speed through the MCQs like I usually do. But not enough to make up for the fact that I couldn't finish the Sims this time around (which are usually my strong points). Granted I finished all but 1 and was able to get halfway through the last before the clock timed out. The one I didnt finish was one of the easiest ones. And since I got 3 DRSs (yes 3) I am fairly confident that the sim I couldn't complete was NOT a pretest.

Last time I got few GNP questions. This time I had received at least 2x that amount. As usual for me, the difficulty of questions in the MCQ did not increase at all. Now I am worried. Now I need to study to pass on the 1st day of Q1 so I can fit one or two more in there.

@giveme75 I would only drill MCQs and I’d do it as much as possible. On the test try to get through those as fast as possible bc the sims take up a lot of time. Also, don’t underestimate Gov/NFP. Good luck!

Folks got varied number of DRS (1-5 ) and that shows there are at least 5 different sets of questions .Hence what one person got in exam and related exam experiences are not be useful for another person still it gives good feeling to hear from others.

The AICPA webinar stated there were 25 versions of the test for each exam section in each quarter. So 100 different tests for all 4 sections.
It also sounded like the state boards were responsible to select which versions of the test best fit their state's needs. ie: a state with more NFP activity might select tests that have more NFP questions to make sure their newly licensed CPA's will be able to serve their populations.
I could be wrong but that was how I heard the information being relayed.

Of course there is probably overlap of different questions in different versions of the exam.

Just got out of FAR. The exam was fair and pretty straight forward minus 2 sims that I pretty much had to guess on. The last sim I got was so out there that I literally just filled in random numbers but I at least will get some points for the correct accounts for the journal entry boxes. I maybe got 1 or 2 sims almost 100%. Lots of partial credit on the others. My second MCQ testlet got much harder so that is promising. Feeling better than I did last time when I scored a 69. Fingers crossed!

@ The People's Champ, you got the same score I
did the first time I took FAR. I had the same feeling after taking it the second time and hit 84. There's always going to be a couple SIMs that are out there. When I took it the first time I did hardly any SIM prep and had no experience with the document review and it overwhelmed me.

@Lentilcounter How did you practice for AUD SIMs? Have you documented which SIMs line up with the AICPA Blueprints for AUD? I am taking it on 7/14 (but will probably push it up to 7/1 today).

    BEC - 74, 71

    AUD - 78 (expired), 73

    REG - 65

    FAR - 73, 71, 71

Took FAR yesterday For some reason i feel like most of my sims are really short. I managed to get to my 3rd testlet with about 2 hours and 15 mins on the clock and finish with everything with 30 mins to spear. My research question took me literally 10 mins to find. Idk if I’m well prepared or I totally bomb it, but I do feel confident with most of my answers and I feel much better than last time when I took FAR. I guess we’ll find out in 2.5 weeks.

    FAR- Passed

    AUD- Passed

    REG- Passed

    BEC- Passed

Took it this morning, the MCQ's were comparable to what I saw in my Ninja studies, one question was almost identical to one I studied. Then came the SIMS. If you are still studying for FAR and are weak on cash flow statements, spend time working through one!

I had 3 of the exact same sims as my first exam. 2 of them I knew cold, the other one I definitely performed better on. Worth it to go over concepts for the ones you remember if you are doing a retake!
