I am starting my CPA journey again. Last time was in 2016 but did not pass FAR. I do not currently work in Accounting field but does have prior experience.

Last time I used Ninja 10-point combo and did not use any other material.

I have read a lot of posts and I know everyone learns differently but this time I am thinking of using other material plus Ninja. I also noticed lot of people use Gleim and Roger with successfully passing first time. I am trying to figure out material should I look into, Gleim, Wiley or Roger?

    Any input is greatly appreciated!!

I am a current user of WileyCPA and I DO NOT recommend it. Just search this forum for Wiley and you will see the negative comments. The software always have glitches such as you will check the correct answer and the software will switch it to the incorrect one. I have completed MCQ assessments and the next day when I logged in the same MCQ would re-appeared as incomplete. When I was studying for AUD, the authoritative literature was not functioning properly for the TBS so I started searching on the internet for the answers. Check out the thread from yesterday titled “Wiley CPA Excel Error”. No one could use the website yesterday so someone created the thread. Wiley didn't inform the users until later that evening. We just couldn't log in. How crazy is that. I think Becker is the most expensive, but people on this forum seem to like it.

To make matters worse, I contacted customer service about some errors in the questions and answers and I was pretty much told that I should focus on what I am getting out of Wiley instead of pointing out the errors. I stopped contacting them and I still see errors in the problems. Oh, well!

I use Gleim and passed FAR, AUD, and BEC with score 90+ on my first attempt. I also signed up Wiley for FAR lecture because Pam Smith explained things well. No matter which material you use, you need spend time and make your effort to finish each exam. Some people can pass with spending very little time, but that strategy is not for majority candidates. And make you plan and daily schedule. Stick with it. Gleim is hard per the forum, but I cannot say others are not hard. Once you choose a material, keep on. You can sign up those free try to find out which fits your learning style.

I don't have other experience to compare it to, but I use Roger and I really like it overall. He really lays the groundwork if you need a refresher on the basics and the lectures are entertaining and to the point. Customer service is also really responsive and helpful.
A couple things I don't like: there are a good amount of typos in the book, you can only do 30 MCQs max in a session, and there is not an easy way to review the sims and compare your answers to the solution. But overall the good outweighs the bad, and so far I'm 2 for 2 as far as passing. I think it's a great course.
Definitely try a free trial for anything you might be buying! 🙂

Thanks all for the input!! I will definitely look into free trial. I have heard good things about Gleim and Roger so will definitely look into those two for sure. I had some material of WileyCPA from one of my friends back in 2016 when I was studying but did not really like it except I did some MCQ and SIMS from it.

I'm currently using WILEY and DO NOT USE THEM!!! I wish some of these CPA review sites let actual customers review the CPA review courses instead of just getting a commission for directing them to their site to buy the course.

Switched over to Gleim mega test bank w/textbook as a supplement for my next attempt at FAR. (too embarrassed to say how many this will be). After having a decent knowledge of FAR (but obviously not enough to pass), the Gleim book really puts things into perspective but I think if I were reading the material for the first time I would want to cry. The mega MCQ test bank was necessary because as a repeat exam taker I felt as if I was memorizing the questions and not understanding the material. Gleim has a lot of questions that make you think about the underlying principles. I occasionally switch over to my other review MCQ (ninja/surgent) and I find that Gleim really helps you understand the concepts and somehow makes it stick. As many have said, Gleim's questions are generally more difficult than the average exam question but that's what makes the extra few points difference. Let's just hope that I have the same experience on test day. If all goes well I plan to do the same for my AUD retake, for which I lost credit.

I've got Wiley. They do have technical issues like yesterday when their server crashed.

Their material for me is fine and does the job.

What sets Wiley apart from Roger and Becker is the access until you pass guarantee.

If you use Roger or Becker and after 18-24 months you don't pass all 4 CPA exams, you have to pay again. This is awful. Even if you are paying at a 50% discount, that is $1,000-$1,600 depending on the program you initially bought.

Look here on Another71's boards for how many people have failed exams and had to retake multiple sections. Many of them have definitely been taking them for more than 18-24 months. Check out how many times the founder of Another71 failed his exams. That's the reason the site is called “Another 71” because he kept failing with the same 71 score. These tests are tough and people have lots of commitments and are short on time.

Other people have have illnesses, deaths in family or other issues that forced them to stop their CPA studies for long periods of time and later resume.

When you purchase Wiley (and I believe Gleim and a few others) you essentially are buying an insurance policy that protects you from having to shell out more money in the event everything does not go according to plan.

    Caveat emptor.

Try all the free trials you can. Figure out your study habits and learning style method.
They send you coupon codes and discount offers after your free trial ends.

I ended up going Roger with Gleim testbank and textbooks.
I used Gleim testbank on FAR and BEC only. The textbooks were handy for reference, and very useful to quick find a topic with the index.
AUD was Roger videos and MCQs.
REG was Roger videos, MCQs and the occasional lookup in Gleim.

Don't go off of people's recommendations as your learning style will be different.
You can pass with any of the courses.

I would second what @Recked said. I would try as many of the different programs through trials as you can. I trialed Roger, Gleim, Wiley, and Surgent. I ultimately went with Roger. I did not supplement it with anything else and it worked well for me.

Looks like Roger has now added an access until you pass guarantee for their most expensive package ($3,000) so respect to them, although it is pretty pricey compared to other courses save for Becker.

Always inquire about discounts whatever review course you choose.

I got Gleim's access until you pass for like $1100 back in 2015. Didn't follow through with the studying until this past year. Super happy with my purchase. If your employer isn't buying you Becker I think Gleim is the best value. Supplement with Ninja monthly when needed.

I was a little iffy on Roger's 18 month option as well (and Gleim's 18 month TB expiration).
Turns out I paid for 12 months too much.
Don't worry about the expiration, just get it done and be done.
    You'll be glad you did.

“Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked.”
    -Warren Buffett

The tide goes out after 18-24 months for most of these packages.

Some people manage to get their swim trunks back on their body and get out of the water before the tide goes out.

Others are left in their birthday suits and in tears.

That's the difference between an investment and speculation. Speculation is gambling and if you want to gamble go to a casino.

    Always protect your downside risk.
