All of the work for my Master’s degree is complete – I walk at graduation on Saturday. I have 3 letters after my name, MTX. Next 3, CPA!!! While taking the Becker class at my university, I felt like I was rushing through the material just to get it done for the grade – I didn’t really buckle down & study it they way I need to in order to pass this danged exam. Starting tomorrow, I’m a CPA Exam NINJA! I have the NINJA notes, my Becker materials, and a brand-new 3″ 3-ring binder with college ruled and graph paper, and 4 new pens – 2 blue, 2 black.

I plan to start with FAR, my beast. I will take it in the first week of July (assuming there’s an opening). That will give me almost 2 full months to study. Then I’ll tackle Audit for August, and BEC/REG – one in October, the other in November. Not sure about the order yet on those last 2. I am hoping & praying that I can pass this thing on the first try. I know that’s aiming high but hey, a girl can dream. lol…

That’s my plan, who’s with me?

Mrs Zep.. what did you do to get into the big 4? I've been working for a local EA but I need to start thinking about how I am going to get my actual experience. I have nothing now. Just worried about getting through the exam first.

I just applied for an Accountant position at the University where I just finished my Master of Taxation. Think they'll hire one of their own graduates, especially considering my hubby is a professor at the same university? Think I'll even get an interview? I am just about *perfectly* qualified for this job – not over, not under. However if I do get it I might have to slow down the exam pace just a bit. We shall see! Either way I'm aiming to take FAR in July.

LOL I would hope they would at least give you an interview! Would that qualify as experience for the CPA though?

Jaz I'm not sure if the Controller, who is the supervisor, is a CPA or not. I should probably check the bio, eh?

Definitely! Plus I also think you have to have a certain amount of auditing hours in.

Not in my state. The hours can be any combination of tax, audit, FS prep, etc. Thankfully.

Can anyone provide some reassurance to me about FAR? My exam isn't until mid-July but I'm getting absolutely murdered on these Becker MC questions. For those of you who passed, is this normal?

I don't think anyone in this thread has passed it yet Entourage. I will tell you that the MCQ's are easier the second time around. I went through all of the lectures & MCQ's for each section for my Becker class at my university. Now I am thoroughly reading the material and taking mad notes as I go, then completing the MCQ's at the end of each section and I'm having *much* more success. It's not enough to just watch the videos, you need to read all of the material in order to score decently on the questions.

If you want to find people who've passed, I think there's a sticky at the top about each section of the exam. You're welcome to hang out here for support during the process though! The more NINJAs, the merrier! 🙂

Thanks for the advice! Yea this is my first time going through all the questions and it's a bit overwhelming. I read through the material once but I guess the review is when most of it sticks.

This is week two of my studying for FAR scheduled for July 16th. I'm already behind my planned schedule since my learning abilities suck! I have to literally watch the lectures and follow along and do whatever MCQ's with them and then go back and write down all the highlighted spots in the book and write out the MCQ's with answers. Plus writing the ninja notes, and eventually, maybe during review week, re write the notes given by Yaeger. And even this will only absorb into my brain by a fraction. So as of right now I'm still back on last week's schedule which is still the first module (yikes) and hopefully will be done tonight or at the latest tomorrow and then I plan on doing extra this weekend to try and cover half of this weeks schedule. Why can't I have a photographic memory? You guys already made it through ALL of the material?

Jaz the only reason I made it through was because I HAD to for my class. I didn't absorb anything (with the possible exception of BEC – the econ & cost stuff makes sense to me) – in fact on the FAR exam for my class I got a 48. Ended up with my only C in grad school. *sigh* Like you, I'm behind my schedule too. I'm about 3/4 of the way through F1. I should finish it today though, and I'm hoping the rest goes faster because at this pace I wouldn't be ready to sit until what – October? lol… so I feel you on the slow going. I need to kick it into gear and FAST.

I feel better 🙂 I hate the way I need to do things to learn. It sucks were using two different exam preps so we can't exactly compare and keep each other on the same schedule :-/ So far I've gotten through the Basic Theory, Error Correction and Financial Statements lectures and assigned homework questions, but I still have to write out the Financial Statements section which is a big one with all the crap they were covering. Hopefully by Saturday or sooner I can move on to Inventory which starting with that topic I'm gonna try and do the notes as I go rather than after watching the lecture. It's just gonna be a whole lot of pausing.

I'm not watching the videos again, I'm just taking notes on the Becker book & incorporating NINJA notes where I can. But if you haven't watched the videos yet you definitely need to watch them at least once. Do you really need to take notes on the videos, or could you watch the videos first, then take notes on the stuff in your book(s)? It should be all the same material, no?

Well that's pretty much what I'm doing. I'm watching the lecture and highlighting what parts of the book they read from and write in the book things that they summarize and also doing the MCQ's and Sims with them that they cover on the video, then I go and do the rest of the assigned homework and then write out all the highlighted spots in my book along with writing out the MCQ's. The writing out process takes the longest but is necessary for me since I don't learn by simply just watching or reading but at the same time have to watch and listen initially to get the concept started.
