Just curious – what are you good at?

For me, I have found that people come to me to talk about their problems and get advice. Guess I’m a good listener, strong person, and don’t put up with crap from anyone. I wanted to be a psychiatrist when I was younger.

I also think that I am good at dancing, in particular, tap dancing. It’s in the genes. My grandma used to teach line-dancing classes and my mom danced in college. I’m a dancin fool, lol.

    @maverick

Henry Cho is a comedian and one of my favorite “bits” of his is how he talks to his kids about asian stereotypes being good. He says, “when's the last time you saw a homeless asian man?”. Well this weekend, I saw my FIRST!!!! I couldn't believe it. I almost went looking for his email so I could tell him. Rick and Bubba (syndicated comedic radio hosts) were talking about stereotypes when the Asian American Journalists came out with their press release about what you can't say when referencing Jeremy Lin. They have Henry Cho on all the time, and they finally concluded that the asians win the stereotype contest hands down in a landslide. Bubba said, “I'd love it if people looked at me and thought I was good at math and always had a camera on me, instead of thinking I married my cousin and spend every weekend deer hunting and drinking beer.”

    ANYWAY….

I find it interesting that so many of us who are in accounting are also creative/musically talented. I'm a good singer. On American Idol, I wouldn't win, but they'd send me to Hollywood. Good voices are a dime a dozen. Good entertainers is another story… I'm also really gifted with my hands. I can paint and put up wallpaper and build bookshelves etc. with no training. Not really useful skills though since wallpaper and faux painting are passe' at the moment. I also hold three stars on all levels of Angry Birds and am in the top 6 players in the world on Giana Sisters (but only because I found that bonus level where you can rack up hundreds of big diamonds for high points).

    nextstopCPA, lol! O siggy na.

CPA-Convertible, I used to save things but my husband would throw them away without me knowing. Of course, I would find out once I needed them. Last year I had an old wok I used often (my favorite) and one day I could not find it. My husband claims he had nothing to do with it. (Yeah right…like something that large could just disappear.) Now three wooden spoons I used for cooking can not be found. But he says it wasn't him. Every time I see Jeff's ninja I just want to karate chop my husband.

I'm very good at organizing and extremely OCD about it. This has definitely helped me in the workplace, but I wish I could loosen up a little bit at home. My spices are in alphabetical order, my kids' toys are all sorted and have their own bins, my books on the bookshelves go in order from largest to smallest in height, etc. I wish I was OCD about cleaning b/c I hate keeping house. I don't mind a dirty house, but can't stand a disorganized one. Like other posters above, I don't hang onto stuff. The less I have, the happier I am. Sometimes I wish I could live in the Little House on the Prairie times.

@The rule of thumb on throwing away stuffs:

    socks-when u see a hole

    cloth-you haven't worn them for 2 season

jean-too tight (don't ever think you can slim down and fit in back again, keeping dream)…

furniture – when new pieces are coming…

I once even threw away a tree…how? I post an ad under Free Stuffs under craigslist. Within an hour, a guy come over and dig the whole tree out and drove away…he said he finished landscaping with all free plants he found from Craigslist…

Looks like I am the third martial artist to check in today!! I have been in martial arts for 33 years now. I started taking lessons right out of high school at 17:) I have my 5th degree black belt and mayyyybeee this year another promotion. Sure feels good to go to karate after not getting a passing score and hitting something:) Guess I am good at persevering.

I also love to cook and have my own cupcake business I do on the side. I also love to scuba dive!!

    This is a fun post!

I fancy myself a darned good handyperson! (since I can't be a handy MAN)

For example I found on craigslist someone giving away 2 rooms worth of floating hardwood flooring if you came and ripped it up.

I came (by myself), I ripped up (by myself) and I put down a gently used hardwood floor (by myself) in my kitchen. I stress by myself because my husband bless his heart knows to stay away from me when I am on a mission (25 years together hasn't been in vain after all!)

Someday I'll have a tv show that combines frugality with craftsmanship…..maybe “this old CHEAP house”??

Before I got on this slow train I was good at the following:

    1. Cooking – Nothing fancy mostly cajun food

    2. Sewing – My old job had a dress code and since I was too small for clothes in the women's section I had to make my own or wear something completely inappropriate.

    3. Knitting – Not by hand, I have a machine!

    4. Genealogy – I've got my family tree done back to before the Revolutionary War

    5. Grammar and Spelling – I'm a geek, what can I say!

    Now:

    1. Still good at spelling and grammar

    2. Multi-tasking (i.e. going over the NINJA notes while holding up the line at Wal-mart)

    3. Ordering pizza

    4. Spending money on exam fees

    5. Ticking off family because I haven't been to a family function in nearly 4 years. I've become an expert at this!

Im pretty good at baseball! Or I was until I started my public accounting career haha. I played four years of college baseball at a Big East school and was drafted last spring. I ended up retiring after the summer to start my career at a Big 4. Time will tell if it was a good choice because it was a darn tough one to make. I would love to be at spring training over the audit room.
