Is it possible to study as much as you can and not pass ever? So, your not intelligent enough? I failed another section, I have never been close on a CPA test yet and I doubt if I can pas it no matter how hard I try. For the practice tests I pull 85% and I think the test is going to be easy, but every time I take it I bomb, never reaching in the 70s. I just don’t know what to do.

Yes, everyone CAN pass, but obviously not everyone does pass. I had an awful accounting education in college and am almost done with all 4. I've learned more accounting in my CPA review course than I did in 5+ yrs of college. As long as you understand the double entry nature of debits and credits, your review course should do the rest. But you still have to put in the time and work, it doesn't happen by osmosis.

A lot goes into it but the most important two things are:

    1. Study Skills and

    2. Study Time

“Is it possible to study as much as you can and not pass ever?”

Yes it's definitely possible. It is not how MUCH you study, it is about how well you study. Big difference.

    “So, your not intelligent enough?”

Sure having lower intelligence can hurt your chances – but if you have a degree, your probably smart enough – you just may need to have more study time and/or better study skills than others who are smarter than you.

“I think there are a lot of other factors, such as luck.”

Luck has VERY little to do with it IMO.

    “There is also test anxiety.”

Agreed. Test anxiety and time management can have big impacts – although these are things, if you recognize, you can overcome.

“I wouldn't go as far as to say that anyone can pass these tests.”

Agreed. Although, I think that under perfect conditions (say – take a year off, treat it like grad school, get a great review course, and study) and with good time management and good study skills, most everybody would be able to pass. It's just that people are working, aren't good studiers, don't have enough time to study…etc. that throws people off. No one has perfect conditions but it is important, more important for some, to have better conditions than others.

once it's all said and done 80% of people who attempt to pass do,the question is how many tries and the time frame it will take you.

Tarheelgirl, can you please tell us your study strategy on FAR to go from 46 to 79>? I have never seen a person go up 33 points on the cpa exam. The maximum I have seen is 25 points.

    That's an inspiration ‘nolifecpa'.

Last score release received a 70 ‘no credit' in the FAR section from 7/2/14.

Stunned trying to shake it off and move on.

Will continue until I pass, it's my dream.

My goal is to have three designations next to my name. The EA, CPA, and CMA. I got one of fhe three, the EA and currently working on the other two. So if it means having no life a all to ensure a successful future by studying all ths time, then so be it. But passing the cpa exams is a must andI will do whatever necessary to pass. The pass rate means nothing to me. I know I have the confidence and ability to pass it and I will pass it.

If you can meet the requirements to sit for the exam, then you can pass it. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you aren't “enough”. I was told that I wasn't smart enough, fast enough, and good enough to pass. Obviously I was enough and so are you!!!

Well, I believe I need to find a study strategy that works for me. I don't believe that everybody can/will pass the CPA exam because not everybody is meant to be a CPA. On the other hand I do believe that the only limitations in life are the ones that you put on yourself. This test for me could be the universe telling me that I need to learn who I am, this test is pushing me that I should learn more of my learning style and it forces people to really “want it”. I will keep chugging forward and pass this test!!
