I second Shark718's post. I've worked for both and wouldn't for a second go back to the big 4 lifestyle after I've seen how good the other side is

yea dont waste your time at ALL, because once you get your CPA,

you can do better then the BIG 4 … like a private accounting firm!!!

and once you get your CPA, what difference does a GPA mean? ummm nothing!

@readyforlife – Thanks for agreeing! I'm not trying to bash the people who work there by any means but I just wanted to tell some of the college people how it really is. Coming out of college I was dying to get into the Big 4 because it's the “thing to do” and they give you these false illusions that you will make a ton of money but all that ends up happening is your livelihood goes down the tubes and you work a ton of hours. The money isn't even worth it. Then I switched to private and ended up moving up the ladder faster and making more money then I ever did with B4.

No I was totally in agreement with you. I basically took the same path as you but now work 40 hour weeks on the industry side for much more money

@readyforlife – Sorry I noticed that after I posted and edited my post. What was your opinion on FAR since I see you passed on the second try? I am waiting on that score hopefully tomorrow. REG and AUD already passed so FAR is really the only hurdle left. From what I hear, BEC is the easiest part.

BIG 4 MATH:

Say you work 52 weeks and approx 75 hours during half of the year and 40 hours during the other half of the year….

thats 2990 hours during the whole year. If they start you off with 75K (and Im being nice about this starting salary)….

that comes out to $25/hour. Deduct some of that REG Tax and you make a wopping $13.75!!!
