Short answer: it's tough and there seems to be a good amount of people in your situation. These search results are from the first 2 pages and using the search term “India”. I'd recommend going through them first. Then if you have more specific questions I think people would be more inclined and able to answer them.
Good luck.

AnonymousInactiveHi Tarun
I am too from India and pursuing CPA in California. I did my CA and 3 yrs B.Com(H) degree with a work ex of 2 years. And after reading so many similar posts, I am actually so de-motivated to continue with CPA because most of the people from the similar background are still finding it so hard to get a H1B in the US. I mean whats the benefit of putting in so much effort when u are still struggling to get the Visa. In fact, now I am more curious to know if any one got the visa after clearing a CPA and who have been in the same scenario. People say that doing masters is an option but I feel that doing masters after doing CA is like a downfall.. Plus you are locked in for 2 years.

AnonymousInactiveI quite sincerely feel for you guys. It's not easy getting a job in the USA right now for anyone, and I know that being an international candidate makes it that much tougher. I don't really know what advice to offer, though, cause the job situation pretty much sucks for everyone. You can find lots of posts around here from American students who can't find a job, too. So, if it makes you feel any better, it's mostly America's economy's fault that you can't find a job…not really your fault. But even if that makes you feel better, it doesn't help you land a job. I'm really not sure what to tell you for landing a job, and I don't really know anything about the visa process so can't help with that either. Just wanted to offer the condolence that even those who have been here all their life are struggling too, and also the hope that perhaps if our economy turns around it will be easier for everyone – you, me, and the kid next door – to get good jobs! 🙂

funtiksParticipantBest of luck.
My best friend from college is an international student, and he is having very hard time finding ANYTHING.
Most employers dont want to deal with extra paperwork etc.. when they have a line of American students who will gladly take the job

ThirteenthMemberI always get so touched by Lilla's post
It seems like you're such a nice person, I even went to check your Linkedin (hope u dont take that too creepy) i just wanted to be a nice friend 🙂
And to Tarun_Singla, i hope you find a great job offer soon. Maybe people are still busy from the tax season. After they get bonuses and come back from vacation, they will start focusing on hiring process?? Hopefully!
I'm currently looking for a job as well, it has been about 2 wks and no luck yet. But I know it will happen one day! I just need to prepare for that day. Hope that day come a little sooner

AnonymousInactiveThanks Lilla for empathizing with us.
@Tarun: Can I ask u something? Are you not getting a job because u don't have a H1B or are you eligible to work here and still u r finding hard to find a job? Like I get many calls for employment but then they cannot take my resume further since I do not have a work visa here. So I feel that doing CPA may add extra $ to the salary but it is definitely not a ticket for getting a work visa. What is your understanding?
April 14, 2014 at 2:45 pm #568954
Tarun_SinglaMemberAkansha nor i have H1 visa nor i am getting any call for the job. That is why i am disappointed after clearing CPA bur Still keeping spirits high.

Rani MuMemberHi Tarun_Singla,
I totally understand your concerns. After passing CPA and having more than 10 years of experience in accounts and finance in India , I am finding it difficult here in USA to get a job. I passed my last CPA in Feb,2014. I called up fews CPAs for jobs and was informed that they do most of hiring in June to September for next tax season. I even ask for doing volunteer for this tax season, but didn't find any. So I personally believe that we will have to wait till recruitments starts for next season . And keep trying till then….

KayMemberI just wanted to share what I have observed from my MBA. I did my accounting MBA 3 years back. 70 students in total. Almost 20 international students on visa.
our MBA was 4 semester system, and after 2 semesters, there was 3 months of internship period. Any of international students did not even get internship opportunities. So some of them decided to study for CPA exams. a few of them passed all CPA exams before graduation. Only those who passed all CPA exams got a job offer. None of others got offers until they finally passed all exams. As soon as they cleared all exams, they began getting job offers.
The point is, even the international students who studied in the US had hard time finding job in the US. But it was evident that CPA after the MBA program gave the students what they wanted.
But of course, getting a job during OPT period, and getting H1B sponsorship are two different things. You need to demonstrate good performance to management to get H1B, I think.
Currently:
CPA - Class of 2013
ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014In Progress:
ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)April 17, 2014 at 6:08 am #568959

AnonymousInactive@Thirteenth Haha, thanks. Feel free to check my LinkedIn – that's what it's linked there for! I have trouble managing my time well enough to get on here through the week or often to reply to things over the weekend, but I'm glad that people appreciate the posts sometimes. 🙂

AnonymousInactiveI kinda freaked when I clicked on Lilla's name and her linkedin profile Popped up ! I thought that it was the default setting for everyone! but its not! 🙂 .
I am not here to discourage you or anything, in fact I encourage you to get the CPA, or The ACCA and looks for a job all around the world, not only the US. I am originally from the Middle East and i know that the Gulf could be a good place to work. They certainly do appreciate talent. Just dont get hung up on one thing when the whole world is open for you.
the US is a great place to get experience and exposure in, but so is Canada, US, Australia, NZ, South Africa, The Gulf region .. UAE, Saudi, Qatar and Kuwait … They all offer great salaries and excellent experience.
Dont limit yourself, thats all what i'm saying 🙂 . If it works out here, Great, if it works out somewhere else, Enjoy life wherever it takes you, it would be a new adventure 🙂 .
