Hi everyone. I took FAR last week and waiting for the score. My next exam will be BEC.

Can anyone tell me if it is okay to use BECKER 2011 lecture and books with Wiley Testbank 2014 for BEC exam? My plan is to use Becker lectures and book to understand the concepts and use Wiley for MCQs. I had taken BEC before in 2011 but didn't pass. Is selecting BEC for next exam (after FAR) a good decision? I know REG is not good next FAR…and AUD i'm going to take it at last.

Please any comments would be appreciated!

    FAR: Waiting

    BEC: 72. (in 2011)

    REG: 75. (Expired)

@icandoit Although most people recommend taking audit after far, I think BEC was a solid choice. My mentality was to take what I thought was the hardest exam first, followed by the two “easier” ones and finishing up with the 2nd hardest. Also, there is some overlap in FAR and BEC material specifically with working capital and A/R collections. Also from my experience BEC was just so refreshing compared to FAR. By that I mean during my FAR process I felt overwhelmed and stressed on a normal basis, whereas for BEC I always felt pretty comfortable with the material. Hopefully that translates to my exam score!

I'll be watching for your post CPAOneDayHopefully, although it sounds like you are in your element with this one. Surprisingly, I much preferred FAR, REG and AUD! As a govt auditor, I have to work in law and regulations (half my job is spent in research and application of laws and regulations) – so peering through rule-based concepts is easier for me than thinking through these formulas.

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement last night. A bit more on my toes tonight.

Wishing you all the best tomorrow!

@CPAOneDayHopefullay. Wow you're taking exam tomorrow and answered to my question. Thank you so much! I am sure you will do good job on BEC exam tomorrow! Right, I was very overwhelmed with FAR too. I am just keeping my fingers crossed for the next 2-3 weeks to know the score =)

I know I am the 1000th person to ask this question…but…. Anybody has any experiences using 2011 Becker lecture and books for BEC exam? For MCQs, I will use Wiley test bank as a supplement. Thank you for your time.

    Becker question:

Using the variable costing method, which of the following costs are assigned to inventory?

    a) Variable SG&A

    b) Variable factory overhead

    c) both

    d) neither

I chose c, but Becker says its b.

I'm confused, I thought in variable costing all variable costs are assigned to inventory. When I look at page B2-3, it says variable costs are DM, DL, Var Manuf overhead and Var SG&A. Am I misreading the question?

Update for me: losing it on BEC. This week was horrendous at work so it has severely hampered study time. I am not through all of the lectures yet (have a little bit of 5 left in Beckers and almost all of 6). I feel like I'm in a lot of trouble as far as taking the test May 6. My boyfriend says take it anyway, and if I fail, re-take in July.

So my game plan is changing. Jeff – as in Ninja Mistier Jeff of the Ninja 10 Point Combo – blessed me last night with a one chapter preview of his BEC book. Its supposed to come out on Tuesday. It reads very well – concepts are well put and seems to hit on some topics that I haven't seen in the Becker's material. When the full book comes out (hopefully on Tuesday), I'm switching over, and then I'll just use the AICPA released questions as my practice exams. Master those and get through the new BEC book.

If I could go back in time with Jeff's new material, I would have skipped Beckers, and just done the Ninja way. I am hating the way Beckers is presenting this material. It worked well for me for the other 3 sections, but not for this one. Sorry Beckers.

Icandoit: I think you may be okay with the older book, but I have not seen it. Supposedly some big change in COSO occurred in late 2013 that is incorporated in the more recent material. You may want to consider supplementing a little bit (possibly doing some online research on COSO 2014).

p.s. i got soooooooo drunk last night to celebrate not having to study formulas for a while. Looking forward to moving to audit, an exam with practically no calculations

    Hi everyone,

variable costing question: if you're taking SL depreciation on factory machinery, it's a fixed period cost? but if it's other than straight line, it's variable OH product cost?

CPAin14, Jeff says straight line depreciation is fixed OH; and depreciation, if units of production, is variable factory OH. So I think yes and yes to my questions.
