lucylawParticipantPhew! That's over! Sat for BEC yesterday afternoon. Although I certainly can't say whether or not I passed (I can hope though!). I came to realize yesterday that there isn't anything on BEC that I won't be able to master in order to pass with enough preparation. The difficulty really does lie in the volume of information. I also found there were a couple of obscure areas that my exam tested twice, sort of like smacking me on the knuckles for not knowing it.
I got stung on equivalent units, which I'm confused about. I knew equivalent unit (both FIFO and weighted average) calculations inside and out from how Becker presented it, but there must be a different method or wording. Do Gleim or Yeager teach equivalent units in a different way?
Congrats to all who have passed and good luck to those waiting!

NY GT girlParticipantThanks Ed & Sean! Well I am glad that is over (and that I looked over my flashcards in the car before I went in!)! It wasn't too too bad. The percentage of questions on each topic seemed different from the content guide and there were a few things on there that Becker didn't touch. Overall, I think it was much easier than the Becker questions. Also, I finished really quickly and walked out with about 45 minutes left. And now my last wait begins! Good luck all!

AnonymousInactiveI sat for BEC yesterday – I am so nervous! I had 40 minutes left when I finished. There were some questions I just had no idea (don't even remember studying the topic), but it seemed like a lot of variance questions. Now on to hoping and praying!

NY GT girlParticipantIneedonly75:
I prepared in 10 days, working about 8-10 hours a day. I used Becker and have used it to pass the other 3 parts already. Myself and 2 friends were all taking BEC within one day of each other, so we all studied together. We watched a lecture and did the corresponding homework for it. We tried to do a lecture per day. We went through slowly and read the book as we went. We felt they skipped a lot in the lectures that were important, so we paused the lectures frequently to read and absorb as much as we could. We also did this so that we didn't have to read through the book again in order to do the homework.
It took us 6 days to watch the lectures and get through the homework the first time (the lectures on finance and managerial accounting took a day and a half each). Then we spent the next 4 days rereading the book and reworking MCQ. The 3 of us that studied together are each strong in different areas, so we used that to our advantage. I, for example, was strong on managerial, so I taught my friends how to figure out variances.
I wouldn't advise preparing for BEC in that short of a time period unless you are strong on managerial already and can work 8-10 hours a day productively. I couldn't have done it without my friends' knowledge and encouragement (and the fact that my friend's mom has been in town and cooking for us so we could concentrate on studying). It was honestly pretty brutal. I did it just to finish up with the exam this window.
Good luck!

leebirdParticipantHey NY CT girl, did you find the BEC exam pretty fair? I felt adequately prepared using Becker, as well, and was very lucky to get so few IT and variances. I mean, less than 10 combined probably!!
I did have some “left-field” questions but these never bother me. Overall, I didnt feel any other program would have made much of a difference.
Last question: which exams gave you the most problem, besides FAR? I had difficulty preparing and taking AUD, passing with one measly point. Its different for everyone though

AnonymousInactiveLucylaw: I sat BEC this morning and had some EUP. I used Gleim online for this section. Gleim's presentation was very similar to what I saw on the exam. I haven't ever used anything else though, so I don't know if your question was just different or the structure of the study material. Like you, I learned the FIFO and weighted average methods back and forwards using Gleim's presentation.
Thanks to Sean (pg 98) for introducing me to the site. I found it by googling for information on the adaptive testlet progression. I'm breathing a huge sigh to find out that BEC isn't adaptive. I thought I was in big trouble. Good luck all.

NY GT girlParticipantLeebird:
BEC wasn't too bad. I felt as though the weighting of questions was different from what the AICPA said it would be. I had 3-5 questions that were out of left field – no mention of them at all in Becker. I think I got 3 fairly easy testlets. Then again, I had seen everything twice in 10 days and I just finished a cost accounting class two weeks ago – thanks grad school!
I felt adequately prepared for every exam to be quite honest. My problem with FAR was that I got my NTS Feb 7th and either had to schedule FAR immediately or wait until April. I didn't want to wait until April, so I crammed most of my FAR prep into 2.5-3 weeks. AUD was the hardest when I was learning it because it has been 3 years since I took my audit class in undergrad and I didn't remember anything (I'm a tax girl). But, Becker prepared me well. REG was pretty easy for me. I studied for 4 weeks and could have taken it a week before I did, but I did have trouble mastering the business law. It was tricky to me.

MPoni123Participanti took BEC on may 28. i don't have a good feeling about it 🙁 i got A LOT of finance questions. i wish i had more variance and business structure questions. i did get several IT questions. i had to guess on quite a few because i had no idea how to calculate them. hopefully i guessed right on them. i used Becker and Yaeger CRAM to prepare this time for it. i think i need to have a better understanding of finance in general to calculate those questions. pass or fail, i am moving on to FAR!
AUD - 84; REG - 90; BEC - 79; FAR - 75; ALL DONE!!

Let us stay positive. I also took BEC on this window. This is my second time taking it. Let us pray together for our success.
I wish you and everyone else that took or is going to take the exam great success.

lucylawParticipantDrizz: Thanks for the reply. I had a friend also using Gleim for BEC. He said he was happy with it too. I'm sure I'll pass, but if I don't 😉 at least I'll know where to look next.
MPoni123, justa75, et. al.: I'm with Ed! Stay positive. Although if you have the time (and a touch of masochism) I'm sure some light review of BEC since it's fresh with you wouldn't hurt. On to FAR and AUD for me!
