Anita – at first I was super angry, but it's business, and it's how it's done at many big firms even non-big 4 firms. My husband was able to find a job in less than two weeks with even E&Y knocking on the door, so all things happen for a reason. He and I are so much better off for it.

It is such a weird time in our economy when professionals like attorneys, CPAs, and Architecs are being layed off at a much greater rate than factory works (as a percentage). I am dreading next busy season; if things even pick up a little, we are well understaffed in my opinion. 9/15/2009 deadline was a son-of-a-bitch.

Wow, everyones talk about the big firm pressures and layoffs is crazy. My firm has about 15 accountants and I have never been pressured to take the exam. I have been out of college for five years now and sat for FAR and BEC one time but didn't really try. They do not pay for the review course but will reimburse for the test once you get your license. We also luckily have not had any layoffs and are actually looking for another person.

I think we will be looking for one more person before tax season. We lost an employee in February and have 1 empty spot.

Congrats Crazysfool, I hope to say the same with all the rest of us NASBA people who have 6 more hours of keeping ourselves occupied. 😉

Yes, firms always talk about treating their employees well and creating exciting career oppurtunities. But in a service industry, we are the assets and, in downtimes, the fixed overhead. They only treat you well when there profits align with your well-being.

Since we're all in the chit-chatty mood, anyone have any opinions on IFRS? I'm writing a 15-page paper on the concept (Still need college credits for licensing). Just curious if it affects any of you guys or your clients.

I wrote a paper on IFRS last year. I feel bad for you. It was boring. Sorry I don't remember a darn thing about it.
