I too am hammering out Wiley MCQs (from the textook – not the test bank online) and getting in the mid-high 80s.

Because I was short on study time last exam, I skipped through about half of the textbook's practice SIMs. Although I scored Comparable on my SIMs for the exam, I always felt like practicing SIMs helped me greatly for MCQs too. Especially with audit, where there is so much conceptual garbage. When I can get 9 or 10/10 questions right on a simulation, where I am having to match up an assertion with some letter of the alphabet and I'm given letters A-L (“each letter may be used once, more than once, or not at all!” THE WORST!!! ) that usually means when the same question/concept comes up again in a MCQ question, I'm only having to deal with 4 possible answers and by then, because I've nailed the simulations on this topic, this turns out to be an easy MCQ to get right. I feel like this is what happened to me in REG too.

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

@InfernoOmni – nice jump in your FAR score – what did you do differently the second time around?

    Hello Everyone,

Has anyone come across this terminology “Carve out method” I think its to do with service organization SOC 1 SOC 2 etc but i don't have any material on it.

If someone knows what this method means and can help explain it to me that would be great.

    Thanks,

PS its not related to the Clarity project.

@Margo: FAR was my first exam and I greatly underestimated the difficulty of the exam. I was still doing things like watching TV, skipping random days, playing buttloads of video games, double gym sessions, and essentially not putting in the proper time. I completed the book in its entirety, but I had no idea that the exam would require you to know so much detail.

2nd time around. No video games. No TV. No skipping. If I wasn't studying, I was sleeping, eating, or at work. I added Flashcards on my routine because I commute via Metro to work. I listened to the FAR Ninja Audio which was great for commute and falling asleep to. And I did a million MCQ's after pretty much starting from scratch.

Again, barely passed but thank god. FAR was a nightmare. I wouldn't wish FAR on my worst enemies.

@insiyah – I found an explanation for carve out here: https://www.ssae16.org/important-elements-ssae16/subservice-organizations-and-reporting.html

I only have a few days left until my exam. It seems like the more MCQ's I do, the less I know. I'm starting to get anxious about it so it must be nerves.

Getting ready for my rematch with AUD. I underestimated it last time because I'm in audit. I won't be making that mistake again.

    Mine is the 6th.

Feeling burned. Feel like I've maxed out. Definitely need to figure out a way to maintain focus for the next week and a half.

REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?

@InfernoOmni , feeling the same way today, my test is on the 7th. I go back and forth and I think it's largely dependent on my previous night's sleep. Today I'm tired and cranky and feel like when I leave work, all I'll want to do it go home and crash and go to sleep. Yesterday, I was pumped up and ready to study study study. Either way, I feel like I know audit now like the back of my f'ing hand. It's sickening.

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

    Thank you 10Key!

I know the feeling hang in there. You have less than a week to go and just keep practicing. I know it feels like you are making so many mistakes but think of it this way, you would rather make the mistakes now than on exam day 🙂

    Guys

I have a question, in one of the simulation from Wiley, they said ” Under PCAOB and/or AICPA, ABC CPAs : serve on the board of director of a company. ABC provides no attest services for that company.” and it said ” it is not allowable”.

I just wonder why it is not allowable? because I thought when we provide no attest services, we dont have to care about the independence rule, isnt it?

    thanks

Hiya, I believe the reason why would be because the company is a issuer and PCAOB has more stricter rules for issuers compared to non issuers.

    @Dark

If it was an advisory position to the board that would be permissible as far as I know, but working on the board is direct influence over the client, basically the same as being an employee. I think it may be part of the SEC reg s-x but that im not positive on

From what I recall from a few questions, location does matter.

If you're a member of the board, and the CPA and Client Company are in the same region, even if you perform no attestation services you are still a covered member.

However, if you're a partner located in another state which is a good distance from the company client site AND no attestation services have been performed then you should be fine.
