Hi all of my Auditing class of 2013 Ninjas!

Is there a study group topic for Jan/Feb 2013 yet?

If not, can we start one?

I have scheduled my exam for 1/11. This is my second try (73 in Aug. 2012). Tonight I am going to take a mini practice exam to see what I remember and get and idea of my weak spots. And tomorrow I begin re-watching Yaeger vidoes. The entire timeline is to work book questions as I go through each module. Wrapping up the last video by Dec 14. And will do nothing but review, review, review until 1/10. Oh, and take my holiday vacation at the end of December, yikes!

What review material are you using? When is your exam? What topics have you covered? Any tips yet?

I thought the sims from chapter one brought it together for me. I'd probably do them as I go and review them all thoroughly at least once or twice. The sims on the test are tough.

I'm still slacking on chapter two, want to have it done by the weekend. Food poisoning has me wiped out since last Thursday. Hopefully I'll get my energy back in the next day or two.

    @Ctxn – WELCOME!!!

@AnnaNutha – glad you are feeling better! Congrats on BEC.

@23 – Good to see you are getting the hang of things. I like AnnaNutha's advice about the sims. I think I'm going to go back through and do the sims from previous chapters.

Sorry you didn't get much help on the corresponding Ninja Notes to Becker. When I start a new section, that's the first thing I do. Glance through the NN and match them up.

Studying is going well. I'm about a day behind because of the score release. I just couldn't focus after receiving my second 74. Anyhow, I'm through 5 of the 8 chapters. So I'm feeling good. Hope to wrap it up this weekend and start rewriting my notes next week.

    30 Days to go!!!

Im re-studying for AUD and its amazing that I even got the score I did without really understanding all the material. Things are starting to make sense now as I thoroughly go through the book. I did weak in the SIMS, but those SIMS were a killer. I hope that I dont get those type of SIMs again.

    Hey there everyone,

First post here at Another71. I'm scheduled to take AUD in the first week of January. Currently studying with Becker's in-class program, but I also go over the online lectures and tend to re-write most of the chapters too. I've been averaging mid 80s on the MC and Sims so far after reading, re-writing, and attending the classes. Haven't really done a whole lot of memorization yet. Feel pretty good for the most part about studying so far. I just took my first review test, 60 questions combined from the first two chapters and go a 100% on it, which is encouraging. I'm trying to finish roughly two chapters a week, spending about 5 hours a day each day through Saturday, including all day Saturday in-class.

Any pointers for someone who is just starting to study? I've never taken or studied for the exam before, and I'm fresh out of undergrad, so is/has been a learning experience so far. I'm probably going to buy the Becker flash cards soon since I get a pretty decent discount on it through work, and it suits my study style. Anyone have any experience with those? I hope they contain the nemonic's since those seem to be favorites for sims, etc.

Good Luck to my fellow testers!

    Hello guys,

I am confused about the “cooling off period.” Is it 5 or 7 years? And how is this different from the “time out” period of 2 years?

The lead partner stays on for 5 years, then off for 5. The other staff auditors can stay on for 7 years, then they must stay off for 2. I'd have to double check again but I believe that is right.

I understood the cooling off period was 1 year under SEC guidelines, and is the period of time with which a member of an audit team (partner, concurring partner) joins an issuer's management overseeing a reporting function, where the public accounting firm is not independent.

The Time Out period is part of mandatory SEC partner rotation. Lead partner is subject to rotation after five years on the audit of an issuer, and is subject to a five year “time out” before being able to be a significant part of the audit for that particular issuer again. Staff rotate out after 7 years, for a period of 2 years of “time out.”

    I'm pretty sure that's right.

Noticed some refer to the Messier textbook for helpful information, and I highly recommend it if you are able to get your hands on the book.

He was my professor during my graduate program and made his tests as difficult as the CPA Exam itself, using a lot of information from the textbook. His class helped me retain a lot of the info I come across now during my studies.

As suggested, probably don't want to go much older than his 2010 text, mainly because of the recent changes.

    Good luck!!

    Hey Guys,

I just got my aud score back and I am really frustrated, I took it the first time and barely studied and got a 71, This time I worked my tail off, Got 90's on the practice questions. Took the test and felt like I got in the 90's and came out with a 62!!! Is AICPA playing some sort of joke. What does anyone suggest? any similar experiences?

    Hi All!

This will be my first exam and to say I'm nervous is an understatement. I just started the application process and hope to sit for AUD Feb 2013. I am deciding between Bisk and Becker. Does anyone have any suggestions or have used both?

Good luck to all the fellow exam takers!

I am going through the Wiley Audit MCs without reading or watching any of the material and have scored in the low to mid 70s. I took audit about 3.5 years ago and it appears alot of the material has stuck in my head. However the simulations have been a different story and was wondering if i should buy Becker software to suppl. prep for the sims? Which materials have been known to be succesful. I am planning to change my test date sooner in order for me to take BEC at the end of February.

I had nearly the exact same experience you did with the audit exam. I feel your pain!
