Hi all of my Auditing class of 2013 Ninjas!

Is there a study group topic for Jan/Feb 2013 yet?

If not, can we start one?

I have scheduled my exam for 1/11. This is my second try (73 in Aug. 2012). Tonight I am going to take a mini practice exam to see what I remember and get and idea of my weak spots. And tomorrow I begin re-watching Yaeger vidoes. The entire timeline is to work book questions as I go through each module. Wrapping up the last video by Dec 14. And will do nothing but review, review, review until 1/10. Oh, and take my holiday vacation at the end of December, yikes!

What review material are you using? When is your exam? What topics have you covered? Any tips yet?

    Future FLCPA,

I have failed AUD twice now, and the last time was really gut wrenching because I really thought I passed (got a 72). I've managed my emotions by changing my view on the CPA exam a little. It's not like another test where you should expect to pass it in one crack (but thats awesome if you do). I just had to come to terms with the fact that this was going to take time and failing was normal and likely. Everytime I've retaken a section though, the information has stuck a little more and its been a little easier. Retaking a section is usually just part of the process, so don't get too down.

@ mmtx – I failed AUD two times too and passed the third time round and trust me I didn't even study when I took the third exam, I went to take the exam cause I had paid for it and I was pretty sure I would've failed and it was time to give up on the CPA……. but to my surpise I passed…. and the only thing I did this time was do the AUD ninja notes…. I skipped the IT part… I actually re-wrote the ninja notes for audit…. and practiced the wiley cpa questions two days before the exam and didn;t touch anything in becker except chapter 3 & 4…. found out last week that I passed with a 77…. and what got me over the hurdle was simulations…. my diagnostic report shows that i was weak on multiple choice but stronger that everyone on simulations…. I figured out while taking the exam that having the audit literature in the simulations is like giving you the AUDIT text book itself…. so i took my time with the simulations and took the entire 4 hours of the exam and when i walked out i knew that even if I bombed the multiple choice i had 6 of my 7 simulations nailed!!!! Hope that helps!!! don't loose hope!!!

Good advice man the sims are what killed me, I'll be sure to spend more time using the AL. I kind of neglected it last time because which was dumb.

The first time I failed I did the full Becker course, but had to cut my review short by about a week and got a 63. Then I retook it with the proper full Becker and got a 72. That last attempt was just a few weeks ago and the info is still pretty fresh, so I'm buying the Ninja 10pt Combo and going to just hit that everyday plus do questions and sims like they're going out of style. I'll go back to Becker for any topics I have trouble getting, but mainly just hit MC & sims like a madman, and Ninja notes/audio to supplement.

Gonna try that and take this thing again in early Jan.

Since failing Auditing in October, I've decided to keep up with my original study schedule and look at my FAR material. I have actually found that going over FAR has helped my AUD review. My main issue, though, is determining a good balance between FAR and AUD. Has anyone else used a similar method? Since I've already passed BEC, I feel my clock is ticking and it would be irresponsible to neglect FAR until I pass AUD.

What is your study plan? Are you working full time? Retaking either of the two, or is this your first shot at both?

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

First shot at both, employed but haven't started yet, studying full time, no other commitments. I've been studying for AUD since the beginning of December, and will be studying up through the first week of January, then I will switch to REG after the 10th and will be doing classes on Saturday with studying every day in between. I spend 5 hours a day at my local Starbucks every day, including Sundays. I'm not planning to take REG until the last week of February.

TBH, I'm pretty confident with AUD, as it's my strong suit. But another thing to keep in mind, I'm fresh out of undergrad last Spring, and have been in graduate school since Summer, so much of the CPA exam material is relatively fresh in my head. I know some people here are people undergoing career changes, been out of school for a while, etc. and that in my opinion would definitely impact the “freshness” of the material in your head.

    Question for everyone:

I've been destroying review quizes and MC/Sims for Becker, however, I just cracked open the notecards, and found myself struggling to match a decent amount of the material, would you say this is indicative a lack of understanding (which the MC and Sims say otherwise), or the fact that the cards are exceedingly difficult to memorize entirely. Seems like a ton of info on each one of Becker's cards?

    @RGlazier12

I was thinking the same thing! I took a look at my Becker notecards earlier and they are great review material but having to answer them without the process of elimination is a bit difficult.

    ^Yeah right? It was tough.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, all SIMs and MC will have some kind selectable option correct? The sims are just drop down boxes or research questions correct? If that is the case, rattling off information from the notecards seems a bit excessive.

Yes you are right for the most part. There are some calculations. I think I will just read through them. How are you liking the live classes?

The guy I had for two out of the three classes was outstanding. The other guy was horrible.

TBH, the classes feel like a very minimalist extension of the online national lectures.
