For those of you who finished or currently enrolling graduate school, what major are you in? And how do you like it?

I read somewhere.. This guy major public policy instead of any more accounting (since he thinks cpa is enough accounting studies) and it worked out great because he ended up having a job related with that degree.

I want to hear more stories like this!!

Anybody took graduate program and felt that it really worked out great with your current job?

Has anybody majored in something that’s not accounting related at all? And what is your job now?

I’m studying Gmat these days and looking for the best option to use this expensive tuitions. I’m a ny candidate, live in nj.

    AUD 7/3/12 82
    REG 5/30/13 79
    BEC 8/29/13 78
    FAR 2/28/14 79

    Becker 2013 + Ninja
    Done.

If you're looking for private positions, I think the CPA-MBA combo is great. One of these days when I'm feeling like I have thousands of dollars to throw around, I'm going to get an MBA. 😛 Most private accounting positions that interest me that I've seen posted say something like “CPA and MBA” or “CPA or MBA” or “CPA, MBA, CMA”, something like that – I haven't actually seen any private accounting positions that caught my eye which mentioned Masters in Accounting, Taxation, etc. – I think those are more prominent in public accounting. Or I just have more MBA-style interests in the jobs I look at. 😉 Not sure which!

If you need the Masters for the 150 then get an MBA. If you have the 150, then get CPA first and MBA later (can count towards CPE!). Any AACSB school should work. Unless you have no network and need contacts, online is a much better use of time. I have my MBA from Marist College, but I encourage either a national program or in the region of the country in which you plan to live. The best programs require too many hours, but there are some good ones that require only 36 hours for undergrad business majors.
