Are you trying to get a full time job with this firm? Are you going to regret not going? In ten years what is going to matter more the cruise or your career.
Not that this is at all the same, but I had a job when i was in school and i felt so much pressure to never miss a day that I missed out on lots of things that looking back I wish I had done instead of working at that job. Granted that job was not in my field at all, and I would have lost nothing but a few hours pay if I had skipped out….
I think you probably know the answer to what you are going to do already…. Also make sure you check that you can actually use the ticket in someone else name before you commit. You don't want to take the time off and then find out you cant actually use the ticket.

R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!Finally done!
This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

February 11, 2014 at 2:07 am #516068mystical guyMemberBe careful now. The job market is horrendous, even for people who are overqualified for entry-level positions, like myself. I would try to sell the cruise on Craiglist, at a discounted rate, and go another time with the money.
There are hungry sharks, overqualified sharks, like myself, willing to “eat anything” when it comes to work. But if they like you, then go for the cruise

Oh, sorry, I thought we were thinking up ideas that are going to get you fired and/or never given an offer letter. Haha ok, all joking aside, seriously dude, if you have any intentions of working for this firm or even using them as a reference, that is a very, very bad idea. After they gave you an offer, you are doing the equivalent of kicking them in the nards and poking them in the eye as a “thank you”. It's not like they're relying on you super heavily since you're just an intern, but STILL…if you bail during busy season as an intern, you will never see the inside of the office again. In all likelihood, they will just say, “enjoy the cruise, but don't bother coming back”.
I'm just being totally honest. I hope for the sake of your career, you stay at work, but if you do go on the cruise, I hope it's the best damn cruise of your life!!! Haha good luck with your decision, brother!

February 11, 2014 at 3:06 am #516032joelsephParticipantIn my former life in public(never again), I can remember leaving at NOON on a Saturday during tax season after already working 4 hours and was hammered by my colleagues for it. You might as well not even come back after taking 4 days off.
FAR: 84 on 4/4/13
AUD: 91 on 7/27/13
BEC: 72 on 11/11/13, 82 on 01/03/14

That being said if they didn't hire you because you took 5 days off due to a “family emergency” then its a horrible place to work especially if your willing to make up the hours. I would still go. If you got an internship you will most likely find a job if your college has a good recruitment fair.
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

February 11, 2014 at 1:40 pm #516077wowurrcoolMemberCompletely agree with LSYNC. It looks bad. If I were mentoring you / assigning you work and you disappeared for 4 days during busy season I would consider that a lack of commitment.
Working in public accounting means accepting the fact that there are certain months where you just have to be there.

February 11, 2014 at 3:00 pm #516079fsugirl2005ParticipantYeah I wouldn't bother going. Frankly, I would be afraid that the nasty norovirus is prowling on the ship. There is nothing worse than getting on a cruise thinking you're going to have fun but you end up hugging the toilet for most of that time.
