Ridiculously Long Lecture for Becker's R3

I just finished watching Becker’s C Corp lecture and it was TWO HOURS AND SEVENTEEN MINUTES long! This was by far the longest Iecture I’ve ever seen in any of the section reviews. I watched the lecture and came out of it learning almost nothing.

Who the heck thought a 2 hour 17 min lecture would be a good idea? Could Tim Gearty not find any way at all to divide up the lecture into smaller, more manageable portions?? Maybe dividing it by each section of the corp “life cycle” that he mentioned? This makes me want to just leap-frog the entire R3 and move on to R4 (even though I probably won’t).

Maybe it’s just me but the long lectures always seem to be on the most confusing topics.

    End of rant.

Wait until you get to R4, it covers more material than R3. Once you are done with Taxes, start reviewing before you hit Ch5.

Is it best to read the material first. Then, watch the lecture for reinforcement of the topics? I haven't started studying for the Exam yet (start June 2016), but in school I only used lectures to reinforce material. I'm not saying you are studying incorrectly – just curious if others use the studying techniques I mentioned.

Goodluck with your studies! I'm just finishing C-Corps in Fed Tax 2. It's tough because of all the random information in the IRC. I could only imagining studying for REG though! (*ML)

Hmm I'm not worried about the material volume as much as the long lecture time. R4 may have more material but at least its broken up into 40 min lectures.

The way I like to study, I study a small amount of material, then work a small amount of MCQ, then repeat over and over again. This 2hr 17 min lecture is a giant middle finger to that method.

Srowe2278 – for all my exams, I always watched a lecture first and then read the material for reinforcement, then immediately did the MCQ for that lecture. Not every single part of the textbook is given equal importance so it's good to watch the lectures first to know what to focus your reading on.

Good point. That's actually a really good studying strategy. When I sit for the Exam I will probably study as you do. Sounds like the lecture gives u an idea of what parts to study/read the most about, so u don't waste took much time on a subsection? So, watch the video, knock out each subsection, and practice each subsection's MCQ before moving on to the next subsection? Are u using Becker and Ninja?

Thanks for your advice and based on your current Exam Scores you clearly know what you are doing!

Srowe2278 – I just used Becker for all the exams. I didn't even know this forum existed until I started studying for AUD. I definitely would've wanted to supplement with Ninja for FAR. Don't let this rant scare you from Becker though, all the lectures are of a reasonable length and broken down well. I just don't know what went wrong with R3…

Thanks for the feedback. Yea it seems like Becker supplemented with Ninja seems to be a good strategy. But, 2 hours and 17 minutes is a ridiculous amount of lecture. I could only I imagine how much material was covered. Like you said, it should have been broken down into 2 separate videos, unless the topics really really needed to be integrated.

    Goodluck with your studies!
