REG 3 weeks away-how necessary are SIMS?

Have FAR scheduled for June 10th. Want to take a full 6 weeks to study for it before major changes come in July 2016.

Prior to FAR, I am wanting to take REG around April 21, giving me 3 weeks to study for it. I could extend it to 4, but don’t want to shorten 6 weeks study time for FAR.

I have been studying REG material and have 1/3 of Wiley MCQs down. Wanted to complete Wiley MCQs then move on to Ninja MCQs for further study.

How necessary is it to study the SIMS? With 3 weeks left and my aiming for 85-90% on both Wiley and Ninja MCQs I’m not sure how much time I will have left to study the SIMS.

Would it be best to first get the MCQs down first, then the SIMS if there is any time left?

    Many thanks for any advice,

    Marc

I would study the SIMs for the topics that appear to be most conducive to being tested as a simulation. The practice SIMs will help you look at the material in a different way than the MCQ. Personally, I think they are helpful. I think waiting until a few days before your exam to review them is probably fine though.

They are only worth 40% 🙂

It's a must to look at them just even to see what types of Q”s they can ask. Much diff than MCQs.

    -----------------------------
    BEC - 77, 03/2015 (first try)
    FAR - 79, 05/2015 (second try)
    REG - 83, 12/2015 (first try)
    AUD - 84, 03/2015 (first try)

I got 99 problems but the CPA ain't one.

i am doing them so i can catch my stupid mistakes before exam and see the different types of instructions. it also helps me remember the details/rules for each scenario. 40% is enough to fail if you don't well even with good mcq's.

sim practice. i never leave home without it.

    AUD - 93
    BEC - 82
    FAR - 76

If you want things to change you have to do something different.

It's the same material but in a different format. I did one session of sims in my studies and 2 hours was enough to get me familiar with the sims format, searching the AL, and so on. I performed comparable on multiple choice and better on simulations, so apparently it was enough for me.

Maybe it depends on learning style. I studied a lot like I studied in college. Most of my time was studying the material and only a little on mcq, probably 80/20, so 2 hours on sims practice might not be enough for someone who skips the book, video, etc. and spends most of their time doing mcq.

In BEC not so hard to just wing it… but in REG you must know the SIMS. My first time around I didn't practice SIMS and my results showed it. 2nd time REG I practiced a lot of SIMS with NINJA MCQ/SIMS.

    Good Luck!

Considering that BEC doesn't have simulations (yet) practicing for them doesn't seem like a good use of time.

If somebody wants to spend a lot of time practicing REG simulations, that's certainly their prerogative. However, I think it's a disservice to suggest mastump317 needs to dedicate an extraordinary amount of time to Sims if they have a good grasp of the REG CSO content. Sims are less forgiving of educated guessing than MCQ but if you know the subject matter, that eliminates a lot of guesswork.
