I have taken Intermediate 1,2 and 3. Also, taken Advanced Accounting. But, I HAVEN’T taken Govt/NFP in school.

How would u rank these sections by importance for FAR.

Also, will Review Course provide me with enough information to fully understand Govt/NFP? In my Advanced Accounting Textbook there are 3 chapters with State & Local Govt and NFP. I’ll probably read those chapters after this semester when I graduate to catch up on those subjects.

Thanks and sorry for the endless questions. This website has a lot of good info!

It's really hard to say honestly because FAR covers such a vast range of financial accounting topics. What you saw in Intermediate 1 may be just as important as something you learned in Advanced Accounting. In realty, it's all important and depends on where your strong / weak areas lie.

As far as governmental / NFP, most review courses cover everything you need to know – it may just take a bit more practice than the other sections in your review book. To give you a better idea, look at the AICPA percentage breakdown of the areas tested – for example Gov / NFP accounts for 16-24% of the FAR exam. Hope this helps!

    FAR - 76 (Lost credit), 76
    AUD - 80
    BEC - 76

Well it's tough to rank them as they're all important subjects you can't neglect so it's an insult to put one at the bottom of the pile.

But if it means anything, I got an A in intermediate 1, I barely passed Intermediate 2, (I got a C and I think the instructor passed me out of pity), and I didn't take Advanced or Government. I still passed FAR on my first attempt with Roger.

However, during my studying I was kicking myself for not having taken Government in college to make my life easier. Government seemed like a crazy amount to learn. Not-For-Profit seemed easier and had less concepts.

Yes a good review course suited to your learning style should prepare you well enough for anything on the exam. If not you can always supplement with stuff like Ninja.

Thanks for the feedback. You made a good point about All classes being important because they are all tested. And, that is great to know the CPA Review Course should be able to teach me GOVT/NFP, even though I have never taken those classes. I've always been a little nervous since I never took GOVT/NFP. Also, thanks for the AICPA breakdown for GOVT/NFP.

Congratulations on passing FAR on your first attempt! That makes me feel better about taking FAR knowing u did not take Advanced or Int. III in college (no offense). And, I will have to learn GOVT/NFP from the review course as u did. I also like Rogers lectures, but hear Becker has better material and website does not crash. I'm still undecided between the two of them, but am leaning towards Becker. I learn best by reading the material.

    Thanks!

If you learn best by reading, you may want to consider Gleim or Ninja book before spending a small fortune on Becker.

I learn best by reading, but I want the best material and most structured program just to get this crap done. I will probably purchase both Becker and Ninja. Do u use Gleim?

My school did not offer intermediate 3. I'd never heard that this is a thing until now. And good on you for considering your learning style. Far too many people buy Becker just on reputation that “it's the best.” From reviews that I've read, it does seem like Becker has an outstanding book, and ok lectures while Roger has outstanding lectures, and an ok book. People who just blindly buy one can make things tougher on themselves.

It doesn't matter what you took in school. The review courses will cover it all. My school does not offer Intermediate 3, GVT, NFP or International yet my friend passed on his first try.

You don't go to school to learn. You go for 150 units. You learn from review courses.
