OT: Untraditional accounting roles- anyone out there know of some or in one?

I’ve been out of school 7 years now. Undergrad and grad degree in Accounting, and I’m on my way to CPA this year.

I’ve gotten somewhat bored working at a large corporation. It’s extremely flexible and stable so can’t complain there. Have held roles (individual contributor and supervisory) in cost/mgmt accounting and internal audit.

Feeling in somewhat of a “rut” now. Even once I do get my CPA, I’m not sure what I want to do with it or where I’d want to advance. I love working with people (worked in retail through college), and sitting behind a desk burns me out.

Any ideas for fun/non traditional roles using your accounting degree?

Have you thought about looking into being a retail buyer? It would utilize your cost/ managerial accounting skills as well as your past retail experience that you liked. A friend of mine (CPA) worked as one for a number of years and loved it- said it was great for an extroverted accountant (seems like there is a joke in there somewhere but its too early for me to find it 🙂 ) best of luck to you!

And they ask me why I drink

    BEC 71, 82
    AUD 75
    REG 75
    FAR 61, 69, 83

and they ask me why I drink...

FAR- 61-next time I'll ask for lube instead of a calculator
REG-75- Never been so happy to see such a low grade
    BEC- 8/11
    AUD- 9/2

Start your own business! Doesn't have to be a CPA firm either.

    Retail buyer sounds fun!

@brickell- that's what I was thinking of too… Just not sure what! I guess that will be something that comes to me with time 🙂
