Not so obvious perks/benefits of working at RSM (formerly McGladrey)

I see all these forums about the benefits of working at a big 4 firm, but I have seen nothing relating to other firms such as RSM. For those of you who have worked at RSM, what were the perks/benefits that you experienced? Such as do you receive a company credit card, does the company pay for all expenses when you travel out of town to a client, do they offer health club reimbursement, is there free food in the office, etc.. These are just a few examples. I already know the company pays your cpa expenses and matches 401k contributions. I’m looking more for perks/benefits that are not so obvious. And yes I know that it may vary my office, but I’m just wondering in general.

“Such as do you receive a company credit card…” I'm genuinely curious – why does this count as a perk/benefit? Is it because it would be indicative of more covered expenses for food/travel, or would you consider having the company credit card itself a benefit? Just wondering, as an accountant in private accounting who helps oversee the PCard system and finds it to be a huge ongoing mess. I'd never considered that our cardholders would consider having a company credit card a “perk” of their employment (personally, if I had one, I'd see it as an added responsibility and/or curse of employment – I wouldn't want one unless I had a lot of expenses that needed to be reimbursed!).

Lilla for people who travel frequently its a perk because otherwise they're paying out of pocket for their expenses (or tying up their own credit card/credit limit and possibly incurring interest depending on the reimbursement cycle) then having to wait anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks to get reimbursed.

You also get to receive all the hotel and flight points for travel even if you use your corporate card. I personally got two nights free for a weeks worth of travel in london and that to me is worth calling a perk. I know so many other people who get ridiculous miles and points for rooms. Also, if you hold an Amex corporate card you can join their reward program for $90 a year and cash in on all the points you would get when you charge the card. It can be a very lucrative perk to have.

To answer the OP's question though yes travel is always expensed to your employer, you will rarely have to pay for it out of pocket unless you decide to stay an extra day or too beyond your assignment. Your return flight is still paid for though but you would have to cover cost of food and hotel stay like I did when I stayed an extra week in london. My $1,500 return flight was covered I just had to dish out money for hotel and food for that extended time.

They also provide pretty good discounts on gym memberships and I am pretty sure each B4 has their own website where you can shop around for discounts. Mine was called something like the “marketplace”. I got really good discounts on computer software like microsoft office when I bought my new laptop. Cost like $10 or something crazy like that. So definitely a lot of extra perks to come.

Just remember these perks come at the expense of your sanity as you are working 80 hours a week, the perks start to not really do much for you.

Edit: I am speaking about a B4 here not RSM, but I assume it is along the same lines.

RSM is a very well respected firm. It has a large presence globally. The environment is just as good as the “Big Four”. Take advantage of the free online CPE while you are there and any educational reimbursement for additional certifications or a masters program!

AnnuityDue; have you had interviews with RSM? I got a call from them to confirm the next step interview. I'm searching for more info to prepare myself.

they have something called accolades which if you do well on a job the senior or manager can grant you up to 500 accolade points which are redeemable for gift cards and other items, a gift card for 50 bucks is around 50 accolade points, so that might not be obvious at first if you just started..
