Hey everyone, I hope your all having a great week. Can anyone help me?

I am wondering if my misdemeanors are going to be a cause for refusal on my cpa application? I talk about them below.

I have 3 misdemeanors that I’m worried about.

1 is for reckless driving. Another is for resisting arrest. And a third is for assault on a peace officer. All in the same incident.

I don’t want to go into details.

I got a Doj scan of myself to see what’s on my record. There is also an obstruction of a peace officer on my record.

As well as some infractions and another misdemeanor for driving on a suspended license.

I don’t do things like that anymore, I have my bachlors and working on bettering myself.

You never know till you try. First, disclose everything! Failure to list a conviction will do more harm than most convictions. None are felonies or financial crimes or fraud related but the assault may be an issue. I really don’t know. Contact NASBA and the board of accountancy in the state where you will apply and have an open conversation with them. If this was all one incident that happened years ago and you have since completed your degree chances are you will be allowed to proceed. You never know until you ask the right people. Go ask them. Good luck!🍀

I actually found they won’t deny a license on basis of expunged crimes. All of mine are expunged, dismissed, or didn’t even go to court.

I uploaded an image where it says that.

Here is the link where I found it.Image of where it says on the page that.

Felonies and fraud/lying type crimes are generally the ones that hold people back, based on posts on this board over the last 5-6 years.
I don't think Misd's will hold you back.

I contacted the board and got an email back. I haven’t got an answer but they told me they no longer ask us to disclose past crimes.

They also said even if they did I wouldn’t have to because I got an expungement.

If this was CPA Exams related where you drove recklessly trying to get to the Prometric testing center and resisting arrest and assault because you really had to get there to sign in, I'm pretty sure the CPA board will understand.😀

Chances are, none of these will cost your license to be denied. You are applying for a license, not a position. They mainly judge you if you are an honest person that seems to be “normal”.

I would say you might find it more difficult to apply for a job that has to deal with “vehicle” or “law enforcement”, let's say in a legal law office (where you might have to go to court).

One thing you could really do is — the government often has programs that can offer to cancel out small charges. You might just have to do a lot of volunteer services for your reckless driving. If you want to have a clean record.
