Working full-time at an accounting firm. Married with kids, in my mid 30’s.

Sometimes I get home and I could go straight to bed. Not even sure coffee helps.

I have FAR in a week, I NEED to find something to keep me going as my gas tank is on empty.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I'd take a good meal before a 30-minute nap, set my alarm, then get back up and study all night.

Wake up a 5:00 am and study for 3 hours before work. Tell your employer you need to study for your CPA and will arrive at work at 9:00am.

Studying for these exams is unavoidably painful and exhausting. There is no specific advice I can give on how to overcome the exhaustion.

Embrace the exhaustion, and embrace the process. Know that it is meant to be difficult. Know that the reason why YOU will get this credential and most will not is because you decided that sleep wasn't important and studying was. When other people watched YouTube or played xbox, you were studying and sacrificing. You got this. Keep going; you can sleep when you're a CPA.

Just made some coffee. Try to get 3 hrs in tonight.

I'm thinking about either going for a walk when I get home or take a nap going forward.

Pop a 5 hour energy around 5 or 6pm and you should be good to go.

During test week, coffee coffee coffee, try to find a place to go where you won't be distracted or tempted to relax. For me its easier to fall asleep when I'm home studying on the couch versus at my desk at work or in a public place. My sleep schedule got all messed up the week of my first test, but I would find myself taking power naps in between studying when I realized my focus was shot.. and then I would wake up and be good to go for a few hours after that. After the test I slept for about a day and a half straight. Also, make sure you're eating food with substance so that you have more energy! Eating right really makes a difference. Best of luck.

Its really all about your attitude……..if you keep telling yourself you're too tired you will be. If you replace your internal dialogue of “its exhausting to work full time and raise a family” with “another 2 hours of studying is manageable” you'll be fine. You're talking yourself into fatigue.

Taking a walk or doing any other kind of physical activity after work is a good idea. I usually run before I study in the morning and on the mornings I don't, I definitely feel more tired and find it harder to focus and retain the material. Personally I can't take naps and then try to do anything productive afterwards, but if you're the kind of person who can that would also be a good option. When you get to the point in the night where coffee isn't working any more a cold shower is very effective!

I would suggest what Nessie said as well – wake up at 5am and study for three hours in the morning. Do this on the weekends too and you will be done studying before your family wakes up!

Then I would also suggest to go to sleep by 10pm everyday though so you are well rested. Your exam is in a week – it's only temporary

Have you been tested for low iron by any chance? I had that issue and found out I was borderline anemic. I took a B-12 complex and it really helped. Just a thought, I hear you about being exhausted after work, I work full time for a CPA firm and after work sometimes I am totally exhausted! I swear that it is harder to recover from mental fatigue than physical fatigue. Good luck to you!
