FAR – Did anyone start with the "hardest" sections first?

Hi guys, I found out early this morning that I did not pass FAR. I got the worst score – a 74. So today, it’s back to the books.

I was wondering if anyone has used the strategy of starting with the hardest sections first? I already reviewed the material pretty well the first time, and I felt comfortable on the MCQs, but the SIMS killed me. So I know I need to work on that.

Anyway, I was thinking that maybe it would be advantageous to start with the hardest sections first (e.g. Bonds, leases, etc.) so that I could continually review them as I progressed. As I went on to new sections, I would review the old sections too, every day – so I would actually get to review the harder sections more times than the easier sections. Probably put section 1 at the end since it’s fairly easy.

I really want to pass this time – thanks for your input!

Maylin, I also failed my first exam FAR. My plan is to retake by mid July (about 38 days). I want to leave 14 days for hardcore final review before my exam. I'm looking to first pen down how I'm going to utilizing 24 days. I'm thinking of doing topics that I know wouldn't need much time so probably 8-10 days and rest days for hard topics before hitting final review. We can do this, let's conquer FAR!!!!

    AUD - NINJA in Training
    BEC - NINJA in Training
    FAR - NINJA in Training
    REG - NINJA in Training

Don’t be upset guys. Every time you take an exam, you learn more. I don’t think 74 is necessarily the worst. I scored a 59 in October, put in at least 300 hours of studying this time, and scored another 59. My dad died in October, but I have zero excuses this time. I need to do more work. I am moving forward today. I have my calendar printed, my schedule written down, and I have cleared my Becker and Ninja slate. I am off to buy new notebooks and pencils, and I am studying again tomorrow. I am shooting for mid-July as well. I am not going to wallow in self pity and lose what I have already learned about FAR. (I am basically lecturing myself here, lol)

Cheers to everyone who passed and to the eventual CPAs who are not quitters! 😉

I went through the topics in the order of Gleim’s study units. Then, I used the review period to focus in on the tougher areas. In my opinion, I would do the hardest areas LAST as they will be freshest in your head come test time.

    FAR 80
    REG 87
    BEC 87
    AUD 96

Primarily Gleim, supplemented with Ninja Notes & Ninja MCQs

Missouri CPA as of January, 2017

FAR: 80 (Gleim, Ninja Notes, Ninja MCQs)
REG: 87 (Gleim, Ninja Notes, Ninja MCQs)
BEC: 87 (Gleim, Ninja Notes, Ninja MCQs)
    AUD: 8/27/16

You need to prioritize the most heavily tested sections and continually practice those every few days so you don't forget them. You have limited amount of time and need to budget it accordingly. You get the most bang for your buck knowing government and NFP and the conceptual framework. And even in subjects themselves you need to budget your focus. What are the odds they'll ask you on something intricate like a Real Estate lease law? Consider stuff like that.

    BEC - 78 (August 2015)
    FAR - 80 (November 2015)
AUD - 73, 67. (Ok I gotta confess I was even more lazy this time around)
    REG - August 27th, 2016
