    Hi ya’ll –
I usually am not in such a pinch for scheduling but am trying to squeeze a retake in by the end of this month – and just got my NTS today. Of course there are almost 0 seats available ANY day except 2 days from the current day you look. Have any of you ever studied/prepped without a scheduled date and rely on open seats in the next few days, then book it? I feel risky, but it seems like there are always open seats 2-3 days from your current moment, and I can just snag one?

Yes, I've started studying before without having a specific date. It was hard for me to hit the books hard though. For me, when I book the exam, it sets a fire under my butt to get through my studying.

As far as getting a seat at the last minute, yes, just keep checking Prometric. I probably wasted an extra $500 completing my exams by changing exam dates last minute and such.

Have you tried checking farther from home? I'd hate to prep for 2 weeks then not have the exam dates available 2-3 days out like that. 😐 I don't remember there being available dates super-soon when I was scheduling my exams, but I was scheduling them several weeks out so wasn't really looking for seats available within a couple days, so my memory may be incomplete.

Consider how many times I rescheduled, if you want one close to you you just have to check everyday at opportune times. (might want to check weird times)

I rescheduled REG 3 times and BEC twice (didn't always have to pay the fee though but technically I have paid half the amount it costs to pay for one exam). So honestly something will probably pop up depending on how lucky you get when you look as there are people who will pay $35 if it's between a 5 day window (that the fee for CA anyway).

Worst comes to worst you can always schedule it out a teeny bit later anyway and then reschedule if you find a more available spot.

Thanks, guys. I do check testing centers further away, my preferred spot is the San Jose center and off all the bay area locations, not like there's a lot anyway, that one tends to have the best availability. And just looking now, a seat for every day this week just popped up… Will see how risky I want to be.

    Thanks!

Following up on this in case anyone was curious. I snagged the Saturday early afternoon test slot I was hoping for, 12 days from now. I'm surprised I lucked out, and don't assume this to always happen but it's interesting watching so many slots come up last minute. Always worth a shot.

I also learned a fun fact when I messed up on my info screen after selecting my time slot. I inadvertently hit the back button and was kicked back to the calendar – my original time slot gone. I chose another slot to test a theory, and it turned out to be true. After exactly 30 mins, both time slots came back to be available. I only slightly freaked out.

    That concludes this experiment!

Great you got the day you wanted.

I hate how people cancel last moment, especially those who have highly sought after appointment dates, such as the end of quarters and Saturdays. They make their appointment 2-4 months ahead of time but don't cancel till a week before. That's why I had to pay an extra $35 to get the date I really wanted for BEC.
