InactiveI gave the NY board a call but they were pretty unhelpful. The woman who helped me ended up hanging up on me because she didn't know. She kept saying “It depends”. I asked on what and she couldn't answer me.
Does anyone know?
Thank you!

ParticipantI cannot offer any help other than to review the requirements on the NYS website.
Don't trust anything from NYS from the people that answer the phones. I called multiple times are received different answers each time. The same goes for NYS CPA Board and NYS Dept of Taxation and Finance. These people are secretaries/administration staff at best and their answers carry no weight or value. If you must rely on their answer then at least email and get it in writing.I am not sure what FEMA credit is, but if its not accredited then I would assume the answer is no.
It might be worth the money to try and get an answer from NASBA or to pay for their education evaluation if you have already earned the credits.
NYS can be picky about what education they accept. Good luck.Ralphie Dos Nachos
ParticipantGood timing my friend. I live in New York and I just completed 24 FEMA credits online. I contacted The State Board Liaison and he said they are accepted toward the 150. These are steps I took:
1. Register on FEMA website and get your FEMA ID#, etc.
2. Take the exams of your choice
3. Once you are done with the exams, create a General Credit Registry (https://acorn.charteroak.edu/ICS/Registrar/Credit_Registry/) on Charter Oak State College's Website. Charter Oak State College accepts these FEMA credits and it is regionally accredited. In order to open the general credits registry, you must pay an $820 flat fee regardless of how many credits as opposed to Frederick community college which pays $88 per credit. so $820 flat fee was better than (24 credits x $88 = $2,112) for me. Depends how many credits you want of course.
4. After you have created that, fill out the FEMA transcript request form (https://training.fema.gov/emiweb/downloads/tranrqst1.pdf), fax/mail it to FEMA, and then have FEMA mail it to Charter Oak.
5. Charter Oak should receive the transcripts within 10 days and they'll ask you where you want to send them (NASBA of course)
6. I am on step 6 right now which is waiting to receive an e-mail from NASBA tell me that I now have 144 credits total and only 6 to go!!

ParticipantThat sounds like one hell of a back door workaround.

Participant@OHMSS Did this work? Can you confirm that NY accepted those credits?
Cool, Calm, and CollectedRalphie Dos Nachos
Participant@goldy i emailed the cpa exam services director for new york and he said they were accepted.i have been awaiting confirmation from the same guy i emailed for a month now. ive been calling him once a week to see if they got my transcripts yet and he has said there is a large pile of transcripts (makes sense especially this time of year) but they should come up eventually of course. but he is very nice and keeps saying to check back in to see.

ParticipantMy friend completed 17 credits using FEMA and now he got his license, so these credits are indeed accepted by the state board. It was last week that I heard from him about FEMA and immediately registered a SID number on FEMA website and wanted to take the exam, but unfortunately the website said that “The Independent Study Exams are currently unavailable. EMI is working with FEMA OCIO to determine the cause of the outage and find an resolution. Currently, there is not an estimated time of recovery”. I confirmed the unavailability of exam with customer support, they don't have estimated time of recovery either, so guess have to wait for another couple of days, or weeks….. ugh.

ParticipantYep.
My license was approved recently and I had FEMA credits as part of the 150. I transferred them to Frederick CC.

Participant@OHMSS, when you say you sent the transcripts to NASBA, you mean the Nashville address?
I'm currently appearing the CPA exams and need 14 credits more to be eligible for the license. I'm considering FEMA as an option. So if I decide to go ahead and send the transcripts to NASBA NY they would accredit me with the credit hours? Because my bachelor degree was from a foreign institution so I had that sent to NIES. A bit confused how to go about the process with locally acquired credits in the US.
Also, any idea how I can find out which subjects are best to take for the 14 credits im missing?Anonymous

When you did the FEMA courses and had your FEMA transcript sent to Charter Oak, were the classes worth 1 college credit like it says on the FEMA website?
The FEMA transcript itself that is sent to Charter Oak shows the CEUs the classes I took were worth, and I just wanted to make sure the classes are worth one credit.
For Example, the FEMA transcript shows a class being worth 0.4 CEUs, but the description of that course on the website says it is 0.4 CEUs and worth 1.0 college credit. So when Charter Oak gets my FEMA transcript I just wanted to make sure this will show up on the Charter Oak transcript at 1.0 credit?

ParticipantHey Mystic Mac thanks for the steps mentioned.
I will probably use FEMA to get to the 150 requirements. I know that NY accepts because I had a colleague that recommend it and he is a license CPA here in NY.
good luck and congrats!
