Hello, I’m from PA and I am registering to sit for the exam. The state asks to have 3 references and at least one CPA. I’m am 25 years old and came to the U.S 6 years ago. I know a guy who has been a CPA for over 20 years and has worked my family and my relative’s tax document and immigration documents for the past 20 years as well. I asked him to be one of my reference. However, on the reference form, he put 20 years in the Known Since (Year) row. Do I need to write a letter to explain to the State because he has worked with my family for 20 years but only worked with me for 6 years. I don’t want them thinking that why I’m 25 years old and know him 20 years

It may be worth a brief explanation that your family has known him since you were a child and you have grown up knowing him as the family accountant. Don’t overdo it. Do you think you will work with him at some point?
