How do you guys deal with people who bring you down? I wasn’t the type of person who let things/criticism really get to me before. I used to just shut it out and not care at all but because I haven’t been able to pass my test lately, it brings me down a lot. Today, I was a bit surprised to hear from my friend (who recently passed all her cpa test) to tell me maybe I should think of a different career path so I don’t have to take the CPA test. (I had mentioned I was unhappy at my current job since the type of work I do is unsatisfying and extremely limited. Part of the reason I’m studying for my test is so I can find a better job and not do journal entries all the time). I was asking her for studying tips btw. And to be honest, I guess I just wanted support/tips from someone who’s been through it.

I had a break down a couple weeks ago but picked myself up and started some changes and saw some improvements. I was making progress, but I don’t want to keep falling behind when things like this get to me. Any tips?

This is such a good confidence boost. I am in the same boat as kanwal / sunflower / @iwanna_pass. I have 2 kids and my wife is my motivation. I passed REG but I feel like I am stuck on BEC. So i am going to take a different approach and start it again. Good luck and all the best everyone.

@Sunflower, this is NOT a race or competition. Don't get in a hurry because your friend passed. If anybody should know how grueling these exams are is the friend. Some people try to play it off like they are so smart, the test was a breeze, and you need to do something else, well you might need some new friends. Set your goals, do some self check, and get to work and when you accomplish your goals you'll get euphoria of your own accomplishments, not someone else. It's not about comparing your time line with your friend. It's like when people say I am 25 and should own my home by now. There is no hard and fast rule that all 25 year old should own a home, be married, have 2 1/2 children, a dog, a degree and work in corporate america. Don't do it you will drive yourself nuts. Set your goals, pace yourself and get it done when it's done.
It's been said, and I hope you believe, A71 is here to help where we can, but passing is up to you.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader.....time to pass

Hang in there guys. I have never failed anything in my life, and I am taking my 9th exam in July. This experience is definitely humbling and life-changing for sure. I keep telling myself that many people would give anything to have the 150 hours needed to sit for the CPA. This is a marathon- finishing is what’s important no matter how long it takes or the path you travel to get there. 😉

There are enough critics. Be an encourager

Wow, for your “friend” to dismiss your career choice so casually indicates to me that either she's a jackass, or… maybe… no, she's a jackass. 😛

Like another poster suggested, I don't think it's so much a question of whether you can become a cpa, as whether you would make a good cpa. Are you good at accounting? Do you enjoy accounting? Are you inappropriately stimulated by accounting?

“you sound tired. so make sure a good diet, adequate rest and exercise on your list too. drink water. think positively. all these things help.”
Good advice and may I suggest an addition to the list? Sex. Proven to reduce stress and improve mental acuity.
