How the hell am I going to go back into job search mode, yet again?

I have been looking for a new position for over a year. I have passed both the CPA and the CFE exam. I’ve been on well over 30 interviews in a year; getting multiple second and third round interviews. Recently, I’ve gotten an internship, which went very well (as i’ve been told); I had really good feedback and enjoyed meeting every individual there. Unfortunately, next Friday will be my last day. Despite the positive reviews, I will not be offered a full-time position, which came as a surprise (I was told it wasn’t performance/fit related-at least a little comfort).

A few years ago, the same thing happened, where it took a LONG time to find a job. Then, I finally got a job in a smaller accounting firm, getting laid off after tax season. How do i continue rolling forward, despite all of this adversity? I just can’t seem to get a damn break, NOT ONE.

B=84 This exam was such a b**** that I thought I failed-don't know how these things work
A=76 Slacker I am, I'll happily take it
    R=81 I LOVE taxes
F=80 I don't wanna get banned for an expletive I'm thinking with "yea" proceeding it

That is how things are sometimes my friend. But there is one thing that I know without even knowing you one bit. You WILL get where you want to be and one day look back on this and laugh.

You don't need a break because you don't brake.

Until your time comes, stay persistent and hungry.

    Best wishes

I don't know if you were exactly seeking advice or input or anything, but let me ask this…where do you live? You might need to relocate. If you live in Black Hills, South Dakota or
Cross Corners, New Hampshire, then I think you need to move to a different (bigger) city.

You said you passed the CPA exam but are you licensed yet? Do you have your experience hours or are you still working on those? Wow, you're a CFE. Sheesh kebab…those are always in high demand. Or so I thought!

Something will break for you, but you probably need to relocate. I know I would, if I was in your situation. Best of wishes, I think you just have to wait it out. I hope it's a short wait.

I concur with the posts above. Sometimes it's not you, it's your environment. I had to move to a bigger city to get what I wanted, but I did it and couldn't be happier with my choice. I'd suggest taking a look at some firms in another city and interviewing with them. If you passed both the CPA and CFE, I'm confident it won't be long until you find something my friend.

I'm in the same boat. I've been on several interviews. I ALWAYS come in runner up. One guy told me I was perfect, and my resume was perfect, and he couldn't wait for me to meet with the rest of the team. He hired someone else. So, in conclusion, if I'm perfect and still can't land a job, it seems like I'm f*cked no matter what. It makes me want to drink. And I do. I hate this.

As someone who lost a job twice in less than a year (with a mortgage to pay and two kids)-you can see it as adversity or you can see it as an opportunity. Your choice but being defeated or excited comes through loud and clear in interviews.

You are not alone, my friend, you are not alone. I'm on the same boat – at least you're getting interviews. Wishing you and myself good luck. Foreclosure here I come.

AUD- Failed the first time, passed the second time, exam expired, failed the third time, took fourth on 4/1. If I fail, I also loose BEC in August, and REG in Nov. This feels unjust.

I'd have to suggest double checking your online presence (what's visible to strangers when they google you?) If you're consistently coming in runner up there may be something either you don't have that other candidates do or they maybe finding something out that gives someone else the edge.

We consistently have one person meet with every candidate because they will tell her everything they won't tell anyone else. My team has been known to not offer a candidate that likes to gamble or that had an Facebook that suggested a level of drama/immaturity.

As unpleasant and unfair as it sounds people make all kinds of value judgments and if you are in an area where the job market is tight you've got to be extra circumspect in matters that otherwise shouldn't matter (body piercings, hair color, online photos, etc.)

Poster above is 100% right. Be sure you make your Facebook page(s) PRIVATE – viewable by Friends only and not Public. That's absolutely essential. Also, go to Spokeo.com and look yourself up. Send them an email asking to be removed. Spokeo lists average income information for every person with your name. If you have a unique name like I do, and are the only person in your state or in the US with that name, they can unlock a lot of information about you very easily, including your age (a very, very touchy area for people who are 40 and still looking for a dream job, even though we may look 28-29 on good days.) If you have Linkedin, that's good – some employers will not hire somebody with no Linkedin (why the hell that's the case I don't know but I'm not the one hiring me so I can't fight it.) But, if there's any unsavory information about you online, especially on social media – instagram, facebook, wherever else, make every effort to delete it. Employers nowadays are so f”””ing nosey – if any employers were to see my facebook page and how much I rail on Donald Trump and his cohorts and the government and the state of this “great land of ours” almost every day, they'd probably not hire me unless they agreed with what I was saying. Even then, they'd probably think “Leon is a real outspoken, self-righteous bastard, isn't he?”

@Ratfus, get a written recommendation from the company you interned with *now*. Verbally offer to write it up for them and if they agree with it to sign it.
How will you do this? I don't know if you passed each section on the first try, if you didn't, ask yourself how did you get the courage to try again? There's your answer.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate it.

I was told the firm would be more than happy to provide a positive reference should I need one. In addition, a few partners have told me they didn't hear anything negative about me and would keep trying to get me a full-time position, if something comes up in the future. I plan to keep in touch with everyone at the firm and was told to do this by a few people. For once, it wasn't a “someone did better than you” situation; it appears to be just timing. Unfortunately, I think they overestimated the manpower they would need into the future. I asked many different people in a number of different ways about my performance; it truly doesn't seem to be a performance issue.

I think that if an opportunity comes up at the firm in the future, i'll have a good shot-at least I hope.

As for face-book, I actually don't post anything and prevent others from posting as well. I also keep only my profile picture visible and it is a landscape.

took me about 18 months to get a job after getting my license. 🙁 I finally got one from someone reaching out to me via my linkedin profile so I do suggest having one out there!
