    Hello,

I was just wondering if the CPA exam typically expires, without meeting the work experience requirements?

I’ve passed all 4 portions of the CPA exam in June of this year, but lack the experience requirements to call myself a CPA. I’m trying to leverage the exam to find a better job. I should have the CFE and the 150 credit hours finished by December, my fear though is that I won’t find a suitable job for this damn license. I’ve been heavily networking at my local board’s networking events, cold emailing people for informational phone conversations, asking for referrals, outright applying for jobs (through niche job boards as well as common ones, like indeed), but almost every posting seems to require years of experience (I only have 6 months at a firm-which doesn’t look good). Also, it seems that most people are just too busy to help, trying to keep their own jobs. I’ve also been busy going to networking meetings as well. It would be quite a bummer to lose this license, after all that work…

B=84 This exam was such a b**** that I thought I failed-don't know how these things work
A=76 Slacker I am, I'll happily take it
    R=81 I LOVE taxes
F=80 I don't wanna get banned for an expletive I'm thinking with "yea" proceeding it

Exam score expiration deadlines are a state-by-state issue. Some states let you keep your scores indefinitely (I think Washington is one of those, but don't quote me on that), and some states set deadlines for licensing before your exam credits expire. I would contact your state board and find out. Congrats on passing!

There is a chance it might vary from state-to-state but I am pretty sure across the board it never expires. I'm in CA and after I passed I received a congratulatory and it stated in the letter that my scores will never expire. So you could never work a day in accounting and wait 50 more years to become a CPA and you'll still have credit for passing the exam. The only time you can lose credit for a passed exam is in that 18 month period before all have been passed.

CA CPA - est. Dec 2016

    FAR - 80
    AUD - 82
    BEC - 80
    REG - 85

    ETHICS - 90
    EXPERIENCE - COMPLETE

Let's hope that the 50 years thing doesn't apply haha (meaning, I find work before that point in time). I'm really having one hell of a time. In college, it was so easy to get interviews. Managed to have 5 firms interviews me. The issue was that I decided to major in accounting too late, unfortunately unable to secure any positions. Now 6 years later, i'm making another push, but it just seems nearly impossible without campus recruiting available.

I can go back to my alma matter 6 years later, but the firms don't seem too interested in speaking once you graduate, even if campus recruiting is still available. I might just take 1 graduate class and claim I'm getting my MBA somewhere.

There are a few states that allow passed exams to expire if you're not licensed wihtin 4 or 5 years. Can't remember off the top of my head which ones.

I'm in CT. I don't think there are any expiration clauses, but I could always be wrong. Certainly a “SPOOKY/Horrifying” thought, isn't it? To pass that whole test, then have it expire.

I suppose, worst case, I could just apply to another state with the passed exam results to maintain the license?
