Burn your books!? - Page 2

Has anyone actually burned or destroyed their study material after passing the exam, or does anyone plan on actually doing it? Occasionally I’ll see someone mention it and I just can’t imagine doing it, personally. It would feel so wrong to destroy something I spent so much time and effort with, regardless of the fact that they pretty much represent a 16-month pause on life. Maybe I’m just a nostalgic person, but I think it will be fun to flip back through these texts in 20+ years and have a look at all the highlight and notes in the margins.

So if you’ve destroyed your texts, how’d you do it and how’d it make you feel?

I thought about torching them, but I like jrosen's response better. My books will continue to sit on my desk at work to remind me how hard I worked for this, and if I'm feeling discouraged, remind me that I can overcome anything.

I haven't decided if I'm going to keep them as a remembrance or destroy them when I'm finally finished. If I do destroy them I think I'm going to introduce them to my brother's ak-47.

I burned my books in an outdoor firepit. Also, burned all of my legal pads I took notes on. It was surprisingly difficult to burn, even with a sh*t ton of lighter fluid. The waxy/glossy style paper doesn't burn very well. Took us well over two hours. Had I set up a Boyscout approved fire, it would have worked much better.

    Very cathartic. Totally worth it.

I'm starting to think I didn't despise this exam as much as most of you do/did…

I didn't despise the exam very much. Actually, found it to be rather straight forward with Becker as I was fortunate enough to pass all four sections on the first attempt.

Frankly, I didn't want to lug around 40 pounds of paper the rest of my life.

The reason I despised it so much was because it took valuable time away from spending time with loved ones. Nothing is worse than missing out on life.

I have a plan in place, and the approval from the Fire Marshal to see it through. I just need to get all of the players in place to actually do it!

Baxter did something completely unique with her's. I made the video for her and I absolutely love it!!

    Yup, that's an air canon!!!

I would like to see how much everyone's study material is worn out.

Looking at the crisp sharp edge of the new textbook(or any book) excites me, but looking at the worn out textbook gives me a greater satisfaction(not to mention the achivement that went with it, of course)

I'm keeping my FAR materials for reference for a bit because those materials are the most recent and still good. BEC and REG have been put out to pasture humanely (bagged up for the garbage truck) as they are too outdated to help a friend or be relied upon professionally.

Audit, however, will have no such luck. I have “special” plans for those materials as audit left me with some ugly CPA exam scars. Some of those special plans include death by firing squad at the gun range, death by cross cut shredder, and the remaining materials will be doused with gasoline and burned in the fire pit while I enjoy a very expensive wine and a nice cigar. 😉
